Aww great... I love it when this thread starts.

Im holding out hope that we get a more seasonal Autumn slowly moving into an early cold spell pre Christmas. I look forward to watching the cold slowly extend towards us.

Cmon the cold:cold::cold-emoji:

Interesting to compare the polar ice-caps on this one.

yes it is. differences presumably due to prevailing weather patterns though BFTV is the expert on sea ice.

Broadly positive NAO so I've seen so far with the La Nina not being of sufficient severity to impact much.

Another milder than average Winter is firm favourite at the moment.

Nice to see this thread again :-)  Even though I never get first dibs on starting it nowadays lol. (I'll start it in july next year).

Anyway, the ice 'up north' is looking very poor this year, but there is a bit of snow in Siberia, so it begins.......

I'd rather wipe that particular thought from my mind! It was disastrous here, a few inches of snow fell, then it rained right after, and melted it all. December 2010 may have gone down in the record books, but it wasn't special here.

Oh god, that was back in the days when the councils didn't store enough grit. My village was unreachable for days.

No amount of grit would have been sufficient with the amount of snow that fell in places. Grit is not good at preventing heavy snowfall accumulations, there's only so much that can be done.

I had 14inches of snow in my back paddock. No amount of grit was ever going to shift that

Hopefully an ear;y indicator of a better winter this year...fingers crossed! Winter 2009/10 was hard work up here, constant drifting snow meant the snow blower was being used at the house morning and night just to keep the drive and paths clear. In the paddock, the snow was 3 feet deep in places and remained on the ground for months.

A historical short video of winter conditions in the village around 5 miles from the house - starts around 39 seconds.

Note the size of the blade on the American snowplough!

My friend had a fair bit down in Poole. Thought it was wide spread ?

Anyway here is hoping.

I took a video of it:

The warm sector moved in here. quite abruptly. An hour or two after I took that video, there was just the odd patch of white left in a few places. It was shockingly disappointing.
