Gosh that's so surprising and disappointing, especially after yesterday's showing.

I was so sure Tom Daley would claim a medal !

    B. :(

He spends too much time on other 'things' imo.

TV stuff - what was that celebrity diving tosh on ITV with Gabby Logan?

    Always on twit ter

    Other 'celebrity'stuff; gay pride, etc.

Nah sorry.....too many distractions in his life.

Focus 100% on your training and sport Tom.

Compare to someone like Jason Kenny - never hear or see him until major championships in cycling.

WTF? The Men's 1500m gold medal was won with a time of 3 min 50s?!

How slow is that!? The mile record went sub 3 min 50s in the mid 1970s.

To find a slower 1500m Olympic gold medal time you have to go back to 1932!

But he was superb in the preliminary round, if he replicated that in the final, he would have got the silver medal. It was not as if he was showing no or a lack of form and he won bronze in the synchro.

If he went out in the first round and that he didn't win bronze and came nowhere in the synchro, then I would agree with you.

I do think though there is a bit too much media hype surrounding him. That was evident in the fact that when he won the synchro bronze, the media was all him. Jack Laugher won gold and silver outperformed Daley but the media spotlight was still on Daley.

We wouldn't have been in this position if the Russian team had not been largely excluded.

But what would we have done in the past if action had been taken against drug users earlier. No doubt some Russian athletes are clean but we have taken medals in 14 sports

They are also very good at athletics (without drugs!) and would undoubtedly have claimed some of the medals GB won.

What's the betting that at the end of the closing ceremony, these Olympics will be described as the best ever:rofl:If i remember rightly, they say that about every Olympics:doh: The Olympics are a bit of a shambles these days with all the cheating that goes on.

How many medals have Team GB won at Athletics.

    Gold (2)

    Men's 10,000m FARAH Mohamed
    Men's 5,000m FARAH Mohamed

    Silver (1)

    Women's Heptathlon ENNIS-HILL Jessica

    Bronze (4)

    Men's Long Jump RUTHERFORD Greg
    Women's Hammer Throw HITCHON Sophie
    Women's 4 x 100m Relay Great Britain
    Women's 4 x 400m Relay Great Britain

Of those I think the only medals which we might not have got were some of the Bronze medals.

They didn't say that in Atlanta.

I can't believe how slow that race was. 35 runners in the heats beat that time. There must be athletes who beat that time but didn't make it through their country's Olympics trial.

    I disagree

Most of our medals came in events in which either Russia competed or were not expected to be medal contenders.

The only one I can think of off hand that may have been influenced by Russian competitors being banned is the bronze in womens hammer

Agreed Essan...My only criticism of our treatment of athletes is that only those deemed likely to win medals receive any kind of state sponsorship...Successive governments have squirted money all over the chosen few, whilst at the same time have continued to sell school playing fields off to the highest bidder. What about the vast majority that are being denied the chance?

Its always a bit sad when the Olympics end, I'd be happy if they were on for a month.

Overall the games did live upto expectations although some of the crowds were disappointing especially in the early rounds. I think London set the bar incredibly high and it would have been difficult for Rio to match that for a variety of reasons. But as settings go the Rio backdrop might well end up the most beautiful we'll ever see for a Summer Games.

The BBC coverage was superb.....just brilliant.

Loved the variety of sports and so many medals for GB. Highlights for me?

    The women's hockey final.

Nick Skelton at 58 (?) winning gold

    Mo Farah's double

Justin Rose living the olympic dream (other Pro golfers take note)

    Gymnastics - M Whitelock

And finally the cycling in the velodrome - amazing evening primetime TV.

Gives GB a lift - maybe symbolic but gives me hope our country will be fine......just fine.
