Well I'm hoping the approaching cold front will kick things of later here in central northern England.

Goodluck all.

Not sure if Milton Keynes is in the firing line today but given all the Altocumlus there was earlier, I wouldn't be surprised if we do see some. These were taken a couple of hours ago.

Just now, GeordieKermit said:

On Thunder Thursday the day started like this.   My only worry is that one storm has moved by us North to Edinburgh.....the other looks like it might cross South of us.  :-)

Not looking at the radar - the last update showed the storms headed NE from Blackpool area.  Main thing is they need to maintain their intensity...

Well yesterday we wasted a lot of lightning in the sea and I'm so glad I gave up when I got to Brum.

today looks more promising with potentially severe weather in the south but you know how it will go - we have the heat and the clear skies, but something will be missing so no storms for us until the end of August

I think it's only fair after the near constant sweating that we are all paid off with one hell of a storm.

Well Edinburgh didn't get as many strikes as parts further east but I got a couple of photos of what we did get

The torrent has eased off but looks like a good few hours of pretty wet weather to come

Up to Cumbria on holiday last month... The SE gets a pasting and a really decent storm. Return home to Kent and within a month Cumbria is in the zone.. typical! Not complaining though, I've seen a couple of decent storms this year and I reckon we're due one in the SE soon. Radar looking intense!

My guess is that this showery rain around here is the cold front finally moving through. I suppose that means I can wave bye to this plume! It was relatively good, although still a bit far from here for a true light show. Hopefully something similar in the near future.

Good luck to everyone hoping to catch something later today!

EDIT: Just checked outside, a completely flat sky out there now with a few breaks in the clouds. All stratus and no convection! You wouldn't think it was the same day.

It really is rather pathetic that hot weather in the SE rarely results in widespread storms whereas one afternoon of heat up north and it goes biblical. Now we're being told all we need is warmth to overcome this inversion and stratus cloud appears from nowhere to inhibit it.

Where were you yesterday instability??? Turn up unannounced when you're not needed! Bah!!!
