One distant rumble of thunder and a 5 minute shower. Can't believe I am right on the edge. A 20 mile northward shift of the storms and I would have been in the action.

Maybe more to come.

Just had a bolt near LCFC, didn't even count to 2 seconds, then it sounded like a line of about 50 big cannons, all being fired one after the other!! Then the rolling echoes as it bounces around the structures and low cloud, incredible! I think this was also a + strike, CG, no branching, thin at top and bottom, fatter in the middle, no secondary pulsing, scared me to death!!!!

Not sure if they've took the players off yet, I know I would of!!!!

Flash and thunder with torrential rain about 5 - 10 mins ago here in Walsall, looks like more to come with intensifying cells in the SW Midlands.

Just now, Flash bang flash bang etc said:

I'm wondering if the south east is gonna get some evening imports

I don't think so, we are a bit too far East/South East for this one I think.

There is a suggestion that as the upper trough approaches from the Atlantic and engages with the low/mid-level high WBPT plume then there could be some elevated convection this evening spawned over the eastern English Channel and running NE across C/E Kent into the North Sea - the western extent of coverage still uncertain, as is often the case.

A new cell just sparked up south of Kidderminster, clutching at straws here!

Would have loved to chase to S Lincs but i imagine the roads are awful today

Had to add also that our electricity went off twice earlier due to the + positive cloud to ground strikes.

I don't profess to know exactly where all the action going...But, I'm guessing (hoping?) that it all starts to take a more west-east trajectory with time...Otherwise it's another:cray::cray::D

Update:

We have light & noise here now with moderate rain but the radar shows that the main band is somewhere near Spalding / Peterborough area with plenty following from the SW.

Wow! Latest GFS now shows 1800 J/kg CAPE and -6 LI overnight, and MO forecasting very heavy and possibly thundery rain tonight as well.

My Sky TV went off earlier, during the storm....."lightning?" said the missus......"nah" I replied, "I haven't paid the bill".....she wasn't impressed... #epicfail

I have my eyes on them too, although I am feeling very despondent about it all now and expect them to either die away as they approach or slide to the west of here. I just don't think this is the year for storms around Derby. May be different up in Chesterfield.

Well done to those further east though, at least our storm drought has ended.

Bright and sunny at home now, but was in Bedfordshire earlier and saw some apocalyptic skies, asperitas and mammatus clouds and quite a few CG bolts. Conditions are certainly ripe over the Midlands and central UK

Update

Heavy deep booms of noise, frequent lightening and heavy rain, its so dark it feels like 9pm serious storm and possibly the worst we have had for a few years. i have to say the local Meto were spot on with todays forecast EPIC.

Have been driving just north of Peterborough and encountered some very intense stuff. Lightning striking overhead with near instant, sharp cracks on thunder. Eventhough the storm continues north from my location, there is still frequent thunder and lightning. Brilliant!

Another line of showers breaking out from S Wales to the SW Midlands. There are a few sferics within it but nothing compared to what is further east.
