Convective Storm/Discussion thread - 16/07/16 onwards

Things now seem to be happening the temp has increased to 25c looking out towards the dales towers can now be seen and even above darlo development can be seen

Just left the office and can see some attempts at bubbling cloud. Still very hot, so wouldn't surprise me if we have a little bit of a convective result from the heating this afternoon....

To be fair Tony over on UKWW has just put the nail in the coffin for the NE region lol Saying that the NW warning is still out I so all to play for.

Come on fellow Southerners? Let's just rejoice in the fact that, this time, it's the Scottys that have got the best convection? I've almost lost count of this year's thunder-days, so far!:D

My rain app says rain is 26.9 miles away with an intensity of 50%

Sferics around Birmingham now - looks like the CAP may have popped down that area?

I'm really bewildered...nowhere currently seeing any sort of activity I'd have at least expected the odd isolated storm to break out at least somewhere....meanwhile 100 miles out in the North Sea it's a completely different picture!

there is a robust cap in place which is inhibiting shower development......the cap will slowly erode as the afternoon wears on....because the cap is so strong it takes a lot of energy in any air parcels to break the capping. If any parcels do have the energy to break the cap then you will see explosive  development in that particular cell...........if the cap starts to erode (as per modelling) then more individual cells might fire where instability/forcing from wind convergence/insolation is strongest

Cells going up south east and east of Birmingham... going from nothing to potent in 10 minutes on Netweather 5 minute radar... game on for the Midlands.

Looks like a horizontal vortices or funnel cloud to me.
