I have just arrived in Hartlepool and can hear occasional rumbles out to sea (I think). I have no access to charts but the forecasts I have seen would indicate I should stay put now for what may transpire this afternoon

Something of interest is the convergence from Liverpool to Hull from the northern-storms outflow, reflected in a change of runway use at MAN the past couple of hours.

It's lightning NE of here. The sky doesn't look threatening either, with a massive clear sky to my S/SW.

Well this mornings storm brought some rumbles of thunder no strikes and a short spell of heavy rain nothing in sight at the moment and clear sky moving up

I'm sure it means an unstable atmosphere or something but I'm not the best with cloud-scapes lol

I'm assuming that this high level muck will choke any storms we *might * have got.

Must have had it bad further north in our region

Virgin Trains EC: Due to a lightning strike damaging the signalling system between Darlington and Newcastle, all lines are currently blocked.

I would say so mate - it was pretty constant here albeit only seen a few flashes of lightning from the distance, it was more noisy than anything.

We have some more initiation around Lancs coast area moving NNE - seems to have burst from nowhere looking at the radar.  West of Manchester now...

Thanks mate - and for those who still haven't a clue here is the description:

The altostratus undulatus is a type of altostratus cloud with signature undulations within it. These undulations may be visible (usually as "wavy bases"), but frequently they are indiscernible to the naked eye. These formations will generally appear in the early stages of destabilizing return flows, especially over the southern plains of the United States, when the surface temperature is still relatively cool.[1] The wavy strips of clouds are generally near an inversion surface.

So I'm guessing a good sign?

I believe that is Undulatus Asperatus - a sign of an unstable atmosphere

Netwx SR in line with current radar with precipitation over SW, could spark over this possible thunderstorm over CS England/SE Midlands!

Storms building nicely around Manchester area now - moving east to NE from the looks of things.  Anyone east NE of this area could see some action soon...
