I'm just grateful I'm off all week. Feel sorry for those working, especially with no A/C access.

But yes a gorgeous morning today, calm, sunny and chilly - that's an Autumn morning!

For those who dislike the heat, bear in mind the shorter days and weak sun. Yes, it will be humid, and yes, the temperatures will be high by the afternoon, but the time period of highest temperatures will be that bit shorter now than say July or early August.

Try and embrace it if you can. The Atlantic and all its muck will be back in no time. When I think what the weather was like this time last September, I think I prefer the coming few days, even if yet again it has to come during the working week. You never know, this plume might actually bring some storms to the south!

Yes I would rather these temperatures in September than June, I think. I won't have to plaster myself in sun screen all day! I think I'll just camp in my local beer garden for the week.

I really enjoy autumn, esp when we are lucky enough to some continental conditions with some sort of block in or around scandy, something magical about a misty cold afternoon in late october/november, just takes me back, pea soup, potato hash, all the different colours of the falling leaves, splendid!

Agree, I remember quite a few Halloweens and Bonfire nights that were freezing cold and frosty or misty. Seems to be a lot more wind and rain in Autumn in more recent years, sadly. That has its place too but Autumn anticyclonic spells can be magical.

The last time we hit 30c+ in September was back 2006 on the 11th when it hit 30.5C at Kew Gardens

Anything above 31.6C will make it the hottest September day for 55 years

Yes me too but I'm hoping it cools down considerably by the end of the month a mild October wouldn't be my cup a tea. By the looks of things from what I have been reading on here we could be in for another mild Autumn and Winter, seriously hope not I always look forward to fogs, frosts and crisp sunny days great for walking the dogs plus it feels more seasonal for Halloween and Christmas. As for now though I agree we should enjoy it for now and make the most of it.

Cracker of a Summer here in London, Autumn is so far looking pretty darn good too. Loving the unseasonable warmth long may it continue 'summer' is still going strong, today is an absolute peach, clear blue skies like that tragic morning 15 years ago in NYC, then we can can quickly switch to a bitter arctic outbreak by late October early November, well that would be ideal with widespread sub-zero penetrating night frosts. :p

The record for the 13th is 28.3c, that's going to be smashed:

Possibly! Certainly an exceptional blast of heat on the cards.

Just looking at the tables on the Torro site.. seven days of very hot weather (around the 30c mark) in the last week of september 1895!

Now that surely was exceptional and worthy of the tag but is a two day plume in the middle of the month that noteworthy?

GFS has been a bit all over the place for Thursday while the EC has been reasonably consistent in keeping the heat.

For temperatures to be breaking a daily record by 3/4c, yes, that's most definitely exceptional.
