Just one look at the hourly obs would suggest there is no possibility of a 2.4C temp spike occurring within a given hourly timeframe.

I'm sorry, I don't buy it for one second.

Also, who knows, the MetOffice may yet even retract the statement after review.

It's definitely possible, if not common, with some potential reasons mentioned before. I have seen it before both on my station and official stations.

Yesterday's CFS run was another stonker. Basically below average temps right through October to Feb and plenty of blocking.

If only it were to play out like this, ho hum......

Seems to be a large swathe of cloud across the east.

GFS suggesting thunder today and tomorrow before a nice 15C maxima on Friday.

The sea fret and cloud has burned away here to give another clear and sunny day. Its a completely different feel to yesterday however as we now have quite a fresh north-easterly wind. We're at 20.4C though its still rather humid with a dewpoint of 17.0C.

Low cloud only burnt away in the past hour, and still only 19C as now we have some high level cloud moving up from the south so today is very much a case of 'we can't win'.. BBC's forecast of 23C doesn't look likely to be reached at this point let alone higher. I am a little disappointed. The North Sea is so useless - they should just fill it with concrete.

The local personal weather station is currently hovering at about 29c, another scorcher.

Not feeling too great today, may have utilised yesterday's warm evening in a beer garden...

A closer to average 17.2C here now after a high of 20.8C. The north-easterly breeze makes such a difference. Still sunny, but wont be long before the fret moves back in, I can see it in the distance.

No real haze here in Cornwall. Stunning evening. Lots of people out walking their dogs. :)

What a disappointment - lunchtime on a temperature display in Liverpool around  1pm:18C.  Where was all this heat we were promised?  Cloudy and chilly with thunder during the afternoon.  Hopefully we'll see something more respectable during the next couple of days.

................And things were much better today.  Just now Liverpool ATIS reported 25C with dp 18C, almost wall-to-wall cloudless skies with just a few bits of Ac every so often.  This reminds me of the very warm spell in September 1963, the first summery bit of a very mediocre summer (I'd use other terms but I may end up banned :))
