Lovely stuff.

Interesting, but I would be a hypocrite to take much credence in any model output even showing a general trend at such range, even though I would love it. Very cynical when it comes to seasonal output, our weather is way to unpredictable for anything like that in my opinion.

This model is all new to me so will be interesting to see how it performs. It is only run once a month.

For Oct ,I would like fantasy thoughts of deep northerlies from the Arctic giving Frost's and wintry precip.

Haven't Autumn's been warm enough in recent yrs without the likes of that though?  Summer had its chance. People egging on autumn warmth and heat and all this warmth would do is show us if proof were needed just how much our climate is changing IMO. No thanks

would agree if I lived oop norf 300m asl, northerlies in 0ct here absolutely useless, 8°, rain, wind just generally miserable

No point in searching for cold until November, might as well have it nice and warm until then.

Last thing  i would want is a nice warm October,September yep thats doable but after that no,we need a Autumn, the colours and freshness are at their best then, its a change of season and we need it,nice and warm till November is probably not a great idea, but just as always just my humble opinion!:)

I'd much prefer a warm autumn to a cold one (what's to like about rain at 7C, anyway?)...But, what we a currently experience is, IMO, too hot. Early October 2011 was also too hot...

I just hope that, come January, we'll see uppers of -15C blowing our way, over very warm SSTs??

Warm, sunny, dry days + cool nights above freezing result in the best autumn colours.

Depends on your definition of warm,i'd go for warm Oct day as low teens,no more, may be a 15c odd day, Agree dry and cool sub 6 to 7c nights helps. And obviously sunny that goes without saying!

Well, I'd be fine with normal October weather, or even cold October weather.. as long as it's sunny and dry. I just can't stand rainy, dreary days!

EC seasonal has been updated. October is shown as settled with high pressure dominated, while November has a significant northern blocking scenario. Interestingly, it maintains some degree of northern blocking through December and January.

Very interesting for winter. Sounds great for Autumn, lots of sunny days and some frost and fog by night would be perfect.

Very much agree on that one!!! Just a tweak in temp can make a October day memorable,to be honest the lack of humidity makes it one of my favourite months.

Well, if it's not littered with south westerlies. A lot of Octobers e.g. 2014, 2011, 2009 etc have had a lot humid weather.

People on here talk fondly about October 2012. I was living in Spain then so I'd like to have one similar to that.

October 2012 was good for autumn colours. It snowed on the 26th and the 27th as well.

Uncertainties for Sunday's low and where it will position itself

454534.png

By Monday we have better agreement that high pressure will bring much warmer air with the south and SE in the mid 20's on Monday high 20's Tuesday

The high slips south towards D10 allowing unsettled conditions to move in off the Atlantic how much for the south will depend on how far the high moves away

why are so many people moaning about the heat in september? everyone was moaning about the poor start to summer so why not just enjoy it? it might be humid but i'd rather have that than dull and wet, which will happen eventually anyway.

I'll take unseasonably cold weather all year round. For October, I want the Thames to freeze over.

Exactly. Nice weather to enjoy the outdoors. Will be cooped up indoors when there's months of gales and rain all too soon. Enjoy it while it lasts! Plus 27C in mid September won't feel as hot as in July.

It's not the heat that bothers me, it's the humidity...I've lived through 1975,1976, 1983, 1989, 1995, 1997 and 2006...But, the humidity in those years was nothing like what it's been, this year...Yuck!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
