Some very high rainfall totals in these showers. The shower/storms over Exeter are very slow moving and producing HRF over localised areas. It is coming my way but slowly! Flooding a certainty.

Storm formed just south of me, rumbling every 20 seconds or so currently :)

Menacing skies just south of Gatwick airport currently... can feel cold outflow from it.

How it hasn't produced a single sferic yet is beyond me!

Storm is 5 miles east of me, still hearing thunder every 20-30 seconds, lightning detector not even picking up a quarter of what I'm hearing :p

Is this still due to 'kick off' as it's approaching 5pm and very little storm activity, just some pockets of intense rain up here?

Just got back home, drove through the edge of those torrential downpours NW of here, however there was no lightning, very strange...

Think the met wasn't underestimating today after all, unless things kick off quickly in the next hour or 2.

In my opinion the Met's warning for this part of the world was spot on. The rain was absolutely torrential for 15-20 minutes, with widespread flash floods and extremely treacherous roads (I would know as was driving at the time, quite perilously in a few occasions). Given there appears to be agreement that the atmosphere could be primed for initiation into evening hours I wouldn't rule out anything in the coming hours to be honest.

Edit - skies clearing now to the west and I can make out some Cu trying to build.

Yeah some places was forecast great but places like the central midlands haven't had anything yet, it did say some areas may stay dry but still thought there would of been more interest than this, but like you said some initiation 'may' still get going soon. (Hope it does) :)

It's been dry here today but a lot of heavy showers to the north of here and I expect some flooding in parts as they have been relentless. I am liking the look of tomorrow on the GFS though.

Hmm, that's strange, there should be more CAPE shown here as it's expected to be insane tomorrow. In other news, just had a massive black based Cumulus Congestus cloud go over, went very dark and calm and then suddenly very humid as the wind shifted from SE to SW but no rain!

Ah, looks like a shower developed just north of here, what a surprise!

Light rain here on/off most of the day but now turning moderate as dark clouds edge in.

As I thought, the relentless rain over the NW has lead to flooding problems. Things across parts of Cheshire are looking rather worrying with breaking news on BBC saying police are advising people to not leave their houses and head upstairs as they deal with a major flooding incident.
