Huge lightning to the West of me, must be a single cell. Seems to have died a little.

Edit: Still the Jurrasic Park thunder boom.

Well, it's the second time in a week that both NW and the MetO have forecast thunderstorms that have failed to materialise...Oh dear, what a waste of energy!

What happened to all the lightning on the north side?

It disappeared? Just like all the rest. But it's still too warm to sleep!

Seeing some frequent, but faint flashes, no thunder.  Probably from Bournemouth area?  Really still and calm outside...

Tedious isn't it? At least we have the dreaded "thundery rain" to look forward to later on!

I think I'll just give up, NS...No rain, no hail, no thunder, no lightning. What a waste of time!:wallbash:

Wow - that sounds cool! What happened?

It was a really weird storm, 1999, July. Got up in the morning and we appeared to be in thick fog. England had had a heat wave, but nothing but fog for days in my part of Scotland. Around 10.30 am the thunder began and it was really close. The rain was biblical.I nipped for a wee and while I was sat there, there was a huge flash at the window behind me at the same time as a really loud "crack", I mean really loud. The floorboards and the loo jumped about 2 inches and I went screaming for hubby. Then I crawled outdoors on me hands and knees, scared to stand up, and discovered that a birch tree in the garden had been struck. The roots of the tree go over and under our septic tank pipe and inspection pit and that's what had made the floorboards and loo lift into the air.

It turned out that that day we hadn't been in "fog", but inside the storm. We live up on a hill and the cloud base was lower than it. It was the most intense storm I've ever seen. There were no gaps between the thunder claps, the lightning was almost constant and it went on for about 2.5 hours. We get strange weather here, in fact I even got a photo of a tornado from my garden. Again it was a nasty storm, but before it hit you could see isolated areas of the cloud rotate and then it would stop, so I stood outside and just waited. Eventually a tornado formed and touched down about 40 feet away. It was small and skinny and didn't last long, but I was thrilled.

Can hear deep booms coming from london way and had quite a close bit of lightning 'out of the blue'. Nice.

Well, whoever it was (Azazel?) that forecast a busted flush/damp squib/Kent Clipper - well done, that man: you hit the nail on the head!:friends:

The Thunder we just had in London must have just woken everyone up.  Hugely loud booming Thunder.  This cell is intense.
