The rainfall here isn't as torrential as the radar suggests. Was going to say no thunder for a bit but we've just had a close flash and bang hehe :D

I think I may need to forget waiting for a storm to hit here and stick to chasing them  Throughout this stormy spell I have seen some amazing storms but at home there has been very little. One small thundery shower on a fortnight like this last one is a bit poor. Still, I have had my storm fix but would be nice to see one over my house so I don't need to think about getting into position and avoiding traffic.

Nope nothing here of significance i'm afraid.

Hang in there there could be something for us. This looks like an area of interest.

Was going to head up to Stourbridge but think it's better to stay put tonight as there must be hell on the road network and they don't need me getting in the way. Hope everyone stays safe and can't wait to see the rainfall totals later.

Did anyone manage to catch that rainbow smudge in the sky N/NE of Brum? My camera on my phone can't pick it up, and now the rain is obscuring it.

I seem to be in a dry bubble, everything seems to be rotating around my location.

Thunder every minute or so right now. Not overhead but reasonably close. Sounds like it's a little east of here, which presumably why PIT is moaning that it's not directly overhead ;) We're eastern Sheffield here anyway so the closest to it.

Had an enormous, almost stationary cell break right over us here in west London over an hour ago and has been going strong ever since - just moving south now finally.

A whole series of enormous crashes of lightning/thunder, one of which appeared almost certainly to be a positive strike somewhere very close by. Almost immediate, sounded like an explosion, timed the rumbling just over 20 seconds, with some more distant rumblings another 20 seconds later.

Checked this site, which seems to suggest absolutely loads of positive strikes (and shows it moving south now and more negative strikes emerging)...

Amazing cloudscapes here, shame they aren't coming my way.

I see fresh strikes in uxbridge on the radar. Dry here still with the stationary cells still to my west and north. Radar showing cells right over my location but they're not.

Cells appear to have rained out now. Probably will be much weaker on the next radar. Oh well was more than i was expecting.

Looked lively on radar around Notts/Long Eaton way but I can see developments over Chesterfield. In fact just as I type it's started to rumble here and I'm not far from Chesterfield.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
