Morning all,

Fell asleep whilst waiting for the storms to arrive and slept through the lot, so I am guessing not too much happened over Southend, though train services closer to London appear to be badly affected this morning.

Cheers

Rather dank and considerably more humid than yesterday. Collected 2.5mm rain, including that from yesterday lunchtime. My lowest total for June so far and about 1mm off the 100mm mark for the month. Can't remember a more depressing, wet, miserable June! Maybe a chance this afternoon but hope I won't be sitting watching everything disappear eastwards before it reaches Norfolkas usual :nonono:

Rain stopped about an hour ago now, sun coming out, Altocumulus moving NE cumulus moving NW. Storm could be interesting later if they're low based.

Think I might alter my signature to "number of rumbles of thunder heard in 2016" - total would be 8. Pfft.

just experienced one of the worst storms i personally have seen! lightening and really heavy rain...... could these storms produce tornados?

Aha, that gives me an approximate time then for when the really loud stuff hit Surbiton. We got the 'first wave' around 10-11pm, which was a very lively storm with heavy rain, but lasting no more than an hour, although it rumbled quietly on for me to drop off to sleep. Had a feeling that was not the end of the storms, and as you say, in the small hours the big storm hit, giving some of the loudest night-time thunder crackling across the sky I have heard with almost non-stop lightning at times. The rain was torrential, leaving our garden a pond this morning, and requiring some creative driving around large 'puddles' in the roads. Don't think my son's school dance group will get to film their outdoors video today somehow!

Heavy rain on/off this morning, no booms. bangs or crashes and no flashes. A bit like the other day.

And the puddle in the car park is back \o/

Morning all :)

Certainly, an active night here in lowland East London with the initial thunder/lightning around 11pm followed by a more sustained and powerful storm at around 1.30-2am which knocked out the power for a few minutes.

Plenty of rain - I've no way of measuring but those who reckon in excess of an inch (25mm in new money) are probably about right. No flooding round here but there has been some in Barking and Romford I gather.

Brighter and very still here currently - HIRLAM suggests we will miss any storms later today. I'm to be convinced.

Nothing ever came directly overhead. The main stuff came through at about 12/12.30 and then there was a very loud bang at about 2.30am, but not a direct hit for me :(

We had 2 waves of storms that arrived to the north of me one about 11pm and then another about 2.30, at one point we had a massive white extremly bright flash followed by the electric going off and a huge bang but it didn't echo like they normally do it was very strange

Yes, it was disappointing.  Still, we got plenty of rain for our garden, but the lack of any electrical activity here was a slight disppointment.
