Barometric settings/names

Recommended Posts

I have just installed a personal weather station and connected it online.Among other outputs, it has Relative and Absolute Barometric Pressure and I need advice on how to set these up.

These readings are adjustable and both read from the same barometer source. My weather station is 25 metres above sea level and there is a BOM weather station at sea level and less than a kl away. 25 metres needs a correction of 3mb.

If the BOM source read 1013mb, what should I set for relative and for absolute and what should I display as the barometer reading over the net?

Thank You

John Adams

You may as well just try to set it similar to nearby official stations.
Sooner or later there will be a particularly slack period where everyone *should* be about the same.
It will be your console which actually reads it - you will probably find that just walking up and down stairs is enough to change the figure!
In practice it's more important to measure rate of change if anything.

Thanks for the response. I can only display absolute or relative pressure, not both at the same time. Which should I display, which should be set to the sea level station reading and which should be the higher reading once I have applied the 3mb correction for elevation?

The relative pressure is the one to adjust and show, look for the closest possible correct reading and set it to that. It will become your stations pressure reading then, as it'll be correct for your altitude. The absolute pressure will always be correct for sea level, so you can leave that alone. :)
