Not much on offer today but something has caught my eye viewing the 13Z suite that may be worth a shot given the the team's current position at DDC. A significant dry bulge is extending into SW KS but higher dps remain in N KS, creating an E-W oriented 'pseudo' dryline. Given better backed flow here if anything breaks the inhibition it could prove interesting. Given potential in far N KS Thurs it's worth a go - and the only other target would be a hike to NC TX

Just for today I'll be mostly targeting Russel, KS on the I70 :)

Message from Paul - the team will be targeting the I70 corridor today, looking at hail and structure most likely.

Currently heading east towards the I-135, the heat and humidity is fast becoming unbearable.

Seems to be some kind of N-S convergence zone bringing Tcu field along the I-35 / I-135 corridor from Wichita to Salina ... in the tornado watch area.

Another day, another huge tornado... (and the only play in town right now too)

We are 2 miles SW of Chapman. Big debris ball signature - it's unfortunately hit something. Also watching multiple areas of updraft scud right down the inflow tail.

Debris-signature indicates a direct-hit into the town, advance doppler suggests some debris sent to 10,000ft

Enormous wedge.  Reports of injuries and properties destroyed, we waited until it passed and checked noone needed help before heading to Salina for the night.

We passed through Chapman, and with everyone's agreement were about to head back to see if they needed help, but good news came from a local who spoke to his sister in town, the tornado missed them by around 400m to the south, the debris signature was most likely the significant tree damage.

Over 2 hours on the ground, averaging around a mile wide. Hopefully no fatalities.

This puts things into perspective, we were less than half a mile from the debris and storm track of what may be one of the longest lived ef5's on record.

Update from local news this morning suggests:

"The extent of the damage south of Chapman wasn't immediately clear, but the National Weather Service confirmed that railroad tracks near the town were ripped out of the ground..."

About 20 homes were damaged Wednesday night in a rural area of northern Kansas after a large tornado passed through but there were no immediate reports of injuries, the state Highway Patrol said.

Trooper Ben Gardner, a spokesman for the patrol, said troopers were checking a rural area in Dickinson County where it was believed 20 homes were damaged, some significantly.

Luckily the majority of the town was spared as the tornado took a slight southern deviation, did the NW chase-team experience any RFD winds being that close to a EF5?

All I can say is wowzer  - what a tornado

We followed that storm from inception.   We took shelter from large hail in a ags station . Then went chased the storm which produced the largest tornado of the tours.  Fortunately it didnt hit any major towns

We played cat and mouse with it for well over two hours.

we passed through a small town that was in its paths and stayed south of the town , we were worried about the town but should have been more worried about ourselves because it came close to us that it did the town.  Chapman  Kansas.
