Thunderstorm and torrential rain here in Bangor, north west Wales

Yes radar shows quite high rainfall rate, much lightning?

Thats what i thought thanks

Actually that's not what I thought, I just saw the warnings and got into a panic about widespread storms, Just that when I read the actual warning I realised that there's just as much chance of a nice day than a wet one lesson learned

After the frustration of the last few days of isolated potential, I think Tuesday may yield more widespread potential of seeing a storm, and storms that maybe more productive in terms of hail and lightning.

Tuesday sees more upper forcing arrive from the Atlantic as a trough in the mid to upper flow moves NE.

viewimage.png

The trough shows nicely as a SE-NW strip of enhanced vorticity on 500mb level, PVA ahead of this creating forced ascent aloft.

gfs_z500_vort_eur_7.png

This upper forcing combined with surface convergence should more widely erode the cap holding a 'loaded gun'of quite high CAPE values as richer moisture returns from near continent and is heated in the sun.

Could be isolated large hail in the stronger storms given large CAPE values indicated. High pressure builds back in at the surface across the south on Wednesday, so storm potential perhaps reducing here.

Thanks Nick! Tomorrow is looking quite different from the past few days. Any ideas of what areas are most at risk?

The Mother's finished mowing the lawn (again) and she always seems to think that once she's cut it, there usually is a little bit of rain that follows. So she asks me to find out...

The Mother: "Is there any rain due, Dale?"
Me: "Let me check"
...
...
Me: "Only a little, Mother."

6z update has calmed that down a tad - our new physics were overdoing rain totals in storms, so we've updated again this morning and they're now more realistic.

After posting, I did just check and noticed the totals were way less, however I'm not going to tell her that. :p

Fingers crossed for something stormy tonight here anyway. Phone and backup charger are full of juice, so hopefully I catch something. :)

Only been put up 6 months ago hehe;), anyway some evidence of possible showers developing to our South across CS England along a convergence line.

Very hazy in the distance but can still see the anvil of the Anglesey storm. Reading reports of it being visible as far away as Stoke on Trent.

a very warm day, feeling rather humid in a nice breeze......some Ac Cas turkey towers earlier this morning indicative of some mid-level instability quickly moved away NWwards, leaving clear blue skies for a while.....More recently though, increasingly thicker mid-level cloud has encroached from the SE, plenty of Ac Cas about initially towering nicely but flattening out as they hit the cap, however in the past 20-30 mins increasing signs of said Ac Cas trying to tower further and break through as the cap erodes & some surface based convection initiating somewhat inferring that a convergence zone is setting up probably some 20-30 miles to my south. I'll be keeping an eye on it's progress as said CZ is modelled to move north slowly as the late afternoon/evening progresses

About 90 miles so definitely possible. Furthest I have seen an anvil is from 160 miles.

Really cool pic from Tim Peake, not sure if that was a storm or not but it looks beautiful and it makes the UK look quite small.
