Sat up on the high ground on the road between Stroud and cirencester, in line for anything that happens on this eastern edge of the cluster. Seems a bit lacklustre, light rain ahead of themain cores and feels cool in the breeze. Anyone still around Stroud area this is a good vantage point!

Seen a couple of flashes of lightning now up here North of Bristol. Steady heavy rain.

Looks dark to my SE towards Brizzle.

Sat right underneath this thunder and lightning. Only sheet lightning as far as I can see. Still though, 1st storm of the year!

It looks like it's heading NW..but the Bristol cluster looks like it's heading NE?

Hmm seems like it's just turning into a washout now with the rain heading up from Bristol. Lightning over there seems to be dwindling?

I drove to Builth Wells and witnessed around a dozen Orange forks between 1930-2000hours.

Sounds interesting did it have any interesting features, like wall clouds, funnels and is that pic a shelf cloud?

Storms that change direction often have some circulation.

Allseasons-si mentioned that is was a wall cloud. It had plenty of motion to it (right to left in the pic), compared with the relatively slow moving storm. Also found a nice screen grab from a video taken earlier.

That's a shelf cloud - cool outflow from leading edge of a shower/storm.  A wall cloud is very localised lowering beneath the cloud base of a storm. Can be a precursor to a tornado in supercell thunderstorms if the wall cloud region tightens and lowers further into a funnel.

Sorry, should of mentioned shelf cloud earlier cos that is what you did show,a wall cloud is more vertical face looking(hence wall),that pic is def a shelf cloud, here is a couple of examples

wall cloud

shelf cloud

to be honest, there isn't much difference when i have googled some of the pics.

Easiest way to determine a wall cloud is that it looks like the base of a pyramid/triangle protruding from the base of a Cb. Rotation is a further sign but this is not always visible from distance. Shelf clouds will often be flatter, wider (than a wall cloud) and bolted to the side of the Cb (rather than under it).

A bit of a wasted journey today. The Bristol storm was no more than a mass of rain with the odd flash. It looks like the best storms of the day go to Mid Wales. Time to head home in a somber mood. Hopefully better luck next time.

Lightning to the south east of here.  Looks like another cell to the south west as well but no lightning.

Edit: As I type lightning detected from the other cell.

We've now got thunder and lightning from that little cell that's popped up over the New Forest.

All to the South at the moment, but it's on its way.

Hello jy. I'm sat in the garden looking South. Only popped outside after the footie to get away from whatever the OH is watching and was sure i saw a flash, so thought i'd stay out for a bit.  Nothing for the last 5 mins though and only the lightest rain.
