It's really struggling out there in terms of lightning, especially the stuff out east.

I think it's fair to say that's torential rain and a flash & rumble or two as well here in Tipton.

Looks like it's clearing here from the NW.

Really strange given the forecast for instability to head further W through the day. That Northwhich cell was a brief affair....collapsed as soon as it went up.

I agree with you, a bit miffed really. I can only assume it's because there is just no forcing element here, even though the CAPE is transferring west.

Fully concur....the Pennines have been acting as a trigger giving the required orographic induced lift. No idea about those around Birmingham though....would love to be there right now.

Even the stuff over the pennines is struggling to keep the cap broken. Think it may have been a bit of a flop

Thunder seems to be coming more from my south and east now. Think it's slowly slipping towards that direction. Always sounds louder when it comes from there because of the hill  I live on!

The trigger is most likely the trough feature, indicated by today's surface charts by the met office.

Saying that, the western extremity of that Pennine lot is looking less like a mass of rain on the latest frame, looking more like discrete cells with the periphery pushing slightly further west.

I think if it does anything now, it has to be a westerly push of those cells as the sky is really clear north and west of my location. As said above, there is an elevated cold front heading SW, so the instability should be transferring.

You're right, it's an elevated cold front, but that is moving SW, but yet little instability to my north? Im expecting the stuff east of here to move westwards.

After that line moved through it feels as if the humidity has dropped substantially.

I think this is building west, it's going quite overcast here, even with the sun in the west
