Definitely sparking off as result of nocturnal cooling and trough moving eastwards.

After weakening in electrical activity the channel cell is ramping back up again, flashing quite nicely now. Nice whitish/orange flashes. Swear I saw sprites/jets a short while ago - would be the right distance away if so.

Is a plume of increasing moisture spreading NW out of northern France tonight, isentropic ascent of the leading edge of this plume above drier NEly surface flow probably what's allowing the storm to erupt over the Channel just off Kent coast, any maybe outflow from storms over France too, be interesting to see if it grows as it drifts NW or other cells pop along the leading edge of the plume.

I'd presume I'm too far west to be in the risk? LOL!

Yes there were towers going up over Shropshire/Birmingham area about an hour ago, could be those producing rain.

The one to the N of Evesham is intensifying?

Take that back, it's weakened as quickly as it blew up!

feels mega tropical here right now - only a storm can clear the air and a big one at that would be nice lol

Just about to say that cells have fired up from N mid Wales to the west midlands, beaten to it,could electrify, cannot stay on too long,up at 5am

as for the cell in the channel, either a full blown storm or it could fizzle out.

bbc graphics do show some showers/storms entering the SE early hours though before dying out mid morning,we shall see

maybe that channel storm will give the SE a surprise early doors.

Tell me about it, if the air was any more humid I could hydrate myself off it.. Already feel suffocated

I am really quite hopeful about tomorrow. Stuck at work until 5:30pm but it looks like things may go on into the evening hours and not a million miles away from here either. Could I be on the verge of my first night time storm of the season? :yahoo:

Down camber watching what's out in the channel. Lightning dying out somewhat for now, had a nice double cg a while back. Lightning is very orange, almost what I'd class as red in colour.

Only have phone camera, which is terrible at night. But here's a picture.

Yes.. Definitely poor quality, but you get the idea :)

Ok, thoughts on tomorrow are somewhat dissapointing for me, like I've already said, won't be travelling far tomorrow so am basically relying on the convergence zone which will be sat overhead tomorrow to produce any thunderstorms. Unfortunately, instability is low, however shear is better tomorrow (conflicting winds at different altitudes) so may get lucky, from looking at the NMM, the intensity of the showers look too light to be of anything significant but a rumble or two looks quite possible somewhere across the coast of Devon and/or Dorset tomorrow.

As always good luck everyone! :D

Yeah, two new cells popping up in the Channel. Hopefully encouraging signs!

Would be nice if it happened
