Yeah, my example never had the smooth edge, just ragged/fractured edges in sort of the shape of a funnel and was rising fast so wasn't sure.

Its always nice to see some decent motion even if it isnt anything to do with funnels. Better than just the lathargic look.

Worth asking.

Thanks!:D

no problem!

Here is an example of some scud from a picture i took in 2014 of what i'm certain was a weak HP Supercell (the tilt:D)

The scud here was located in an area of rotation indicating a possible wall cloud/meso

I actually think it's a positive sign how showers are quite potent without thunder, however instability is far from its max at this moment in time, and we should expect sun to break further so is looking up!

Omfg this rain!!! :o this is mental still no thunder

yep looking very heavy in places and as for thunderstorms discreet showers might have more chance than that persistant / static band of rain and that's what it is unless it's a southern england shower

When is the sun supposed to come out?

It has stopped raining for the past couple of hours and there is still 100% cloud cover.

Maybe the sun won't come out after all.

Sounds about right. Sun this time of year here is a bit like oil and water, they just don't go together!

you'd look at the radar and you'd think thunder would be somewhere but not at the moment just lots and lots and lots and lots of heavy rain

Crikey - it's a bit bonkers on Lightning maps!!! I'm off to take my recycling before - probably nothing happens in Limousin!

Moist profile and PWAT amounts close to 30mm causing torrential rainfall and bright reflectivity on radar; bright echoes not necessarily indicative of a developing storm.  Need a deep cloud with cloud tops reaching cold upper levels to increase lightning risk. Convective development getting swamped by mass of heavy showers atm.

Unfortunately it looks like just lots of heavy showers again with no real breaks in the cloud. We had a few breaks here earlier but they lasted no more than 5 minutes before the cloud rolled back in again. Disappointing, I was hoping for more today.

Yes, a nice strike rate going on! Both Météo France and Keraunos have orange warnings out for these more northern areas of France. And it's just started a gentle, distant rumbling here with me in the Monts d'Ambazac...

Just notice the sky rapidly going dark to my East. Looking on radar some very small but intense downpours are developing.

Annoyingly, that 'convective mass' seems to have weakened as its moved in this direction. Again, having to wait for it to get out of the way to allow for any convection to take place during the afternoon hours.

Sky is looking considerably brighter in South Bristol, doom and gloom over your way unfortunately!

I'm actually in north Bristol at the moment so it's not raining at all and like you say the sky is brighter than it has been for a lot of today. Looks very different down where I actually live, currently under dark red on the N-W radar.

Edit: in fact it's so much brighter that we've just had about 60 seconds of sunshine haha.
