That storm over Andover reached here with very heavy rain but haven't heard any more thunder since it arrived. Strong smell in the air.

They don't even pass me! I think we generate them in the Thames valley, then they travel elsewhere and develop into full blown storms. I don't think I saw a single storm last year

Did say it had been quiet all day here but now the heavens have unleashed

Just looking at the radar. A ring rather than line of showers now developed over M4 corridor. Any thoughts? (I have no idea, just wondering)

Well whatever it is, it seems the thundery activity is developing on it. Safe to say I am inside the circle where it's sunny with blue skies!!

technically that's after rain not specific to thunder only

petrichor

Pronunciation: /ˈpɛtrʌɪkɔː/

noun

A pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather or other than the petrichor emanating from the rapidly drying grass, there was not a trace of evidence that it had rained at all

of course I'm just nitpicking so feel free to ignore

My wife has reported a torrential thunderstorm with hail and overhead lightning/thunder at Great Wishford.

Here in Warminster a brief sharp shower and I didn't hear any thunder even when it was near Westbury!

Very dark in the distance again. This time to the south of me.

Half decent storm rolling through here, a strike every couple of minutes with some long deep rumbles of thunder.

Not sure buddy, went to try and have a look, but then winded itself back upwards! Certainly went down pretty far I reckon. Hopefully someone got a clear shot of it elsewhere!

Yep, great catch, EES.  Shame the house opposite is obscuring the view, quite a way down that funnel so be interesting to know if there was any brief circulation on the ground.

Very nice! Looks like a Arcus shelf cloud to me. Would make sense with the weather conditions around.

Thought there was an arcus cloud earlier on, no way near as defined as yours (excellent pic by the way) but there seemed to be a kind of shelf forming in the mid-levels as I drove down through Haslemere.

Currently near Buriton but since everything stopped I found a pub and did some work instead :good:

Here's another from a friend of mine.

Wish I'd have been nearer to it to see if there was any debris or damage. Haven't heard anything bad so far.
