The storm chase gets underway today, with tour 1 running up to the 17th May, at that point the tour 2 guests arrive with their first chase day on the 18th.

Obviously it's pretty early to be looking ahead at this point, but to get the ball rolling just a quick snapshot of chase day 1, as it stands on the GFS right now & it's looking pretty active - lots of energy and plenty of convective rain/storms showing.

Lots likely to change between now and the start of the tour in terms of the outlook, but a nice start and the countdown starts here!

Tour 2 guests - I'll be sending you over your final info packs during the next 48 hours.

Still a way off, but a quick look toward chase day 1 of the 2nd tour..

Lots of energy and moisture and the opportunity to chase not too far from DFW which is always a bonus near the start and end of tours! Plenty of time for this to change, but looking good so far.

Still looking tasty for w/b 21st May with GFS continuing to place a broad scale pattern that would see rich moisture return into the central plains ahead of an upper low.

Way too early for detail but the pattern looks good. I shall be in the field from 22nd.

I'm not massively in the know about the forecasting here, but I've been watching the MLCAPE map for the last week or so. So am I right in thinking the first few days generally look to be best South and West of DFW, and the around 21st there seems to be massive CAPE from North to South, indicating this high moisture?

Yep more or less right. Substantive severe parameters not available on GFS so detail vague but get one ingredient in - moisture and hence energy - and you've got a chance.

By Weds next week will have more of an idea whether it will be days in museums and pools, or preferably big chase days with action galore.

It would be fair to say severe end potential looks limited from Wednesday to Saturday this week, with a substantial ridge of high pressure in place from the Lakes to the Eastern GOM. As this recedes, and the upper trough begins to become more influencial, and with plenty of moisture set to return North, it looks promising for the weekend going into next week.
Chasers may have to shift their attentions further North though up into KS/NE but this isn't unusual late May.

I don't agree with a few commentators on StormTrack who are saying the season is over. Nonsense in my opinion (and I'm a bit biased it has to be said lol)

The first of us have arrived in Dallas! It's 27C and humid/cloudy. Standard trip to Walmart for supplies and going for top notch food in Aspen Creek! See you later! :)

That's tour 2 up and running now after changeover day yesterday. This one is a three car tour, so that's 11 guests and 4 staff chasing. They are:

Staff
Paul Sherman
Tom Lynch
Ian Michaelwaite
Graham Moore

Guests
Jason
Nick
Laura
Lee (chase virgin)
Steve
Robin (chase virgin)
Beverley (chase virgin)
Mike
Tony (chase virgin)
Jane (chase virgin)
David

Lots of chase virgins ready to experience their first supercells, tornadoes and 'proper' thunderstorms - should be a fun tour!

Here's one of the shiney fresh chase vehicles, I'm guessing it won't be quite as clean in a few days time..

First chance for a group shot, here's everyone except me, as I'm shy.
