And we're nearly off!!

The team are on the ground setting up, and the guests for tour 1 arrive on Thursday/Friday for the start of the 2016 chase. We'll be streaming all the action live on the website again, so you can watch it here (there are currently a whole bunch of video highlights from 2015 on there too):

http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=chaselive;sess=

And as usual Paul and the team will be keeping us up to date on the forums with the latest info, briefings, reports, video highlights and photos. Please feel free to get involved, asked questions, give your forecasts for possible chase targets etc.

To whet the appetite a bit, here are a small selection of the photos from last year:

And a video from Ian Carruthers of an amazing supercell

For those who may like to join the team in the USA - we have just 1 place left on the tours this year, it's on tour 4 - please head over to the weatherholidays website for more info.

Just to follow on from what Paul has said, Cant wait for this year and we have made excellent progress in getting everything set up already. Car 1 is fully equipped and ready to chase already, Barons and GRLevel 3 is working, Pucks getting loaded for data coverage as we speak. Car 2 is getting its final preps done at the moment with the streaming camera going in this morning. Picking Olly up at the airport later and then its onto Wichita Falls this evening, tomorrow sees us driving to Lamar in readiness for the first chase Day of Tour 1 which is Saturday so a great start.

Weather has been amazing in Dallas the last 2 days with 85f temps and very low humidity due to moisture being scoured back to the Gulf Of Mexico. Winds swing back South Easterly in response to an Upper Trough just off the California Coast  on Friday and "Just In Time" moisture of not the greatest quality will stream North Westwards by Saturday afternoon for a decent risk in NE Colorado near the Triple Point. If anything magical can get it done over here it is usually in Colorado so our expectations are quite high at the moment. Sunday will see us back in South Central Kansas and Monday looks like Missouri as we follow the system eastwards. So a very active start to Tour 1 is on the cards once again.

It seems strange starting the year in Colorado but after finishing the last day of the 2015 Season in pretty much the same spot as where we start this year is a good sign although that was a different type of Storm we were dealing with on the 22nd June last year.

Just  quick heads up for those flying out.

Check your passports.

If you do not have a Biometric passport, you will NOT get into the USA.

As from April 1st, only holders of biometric  passports will be allowed in.

A biometric passport will have a small camera picture embossed on the front.

I posted the same a while ago. Bio passports were introduced in 2006 and so with a 10 year life only a few non-bio's will still be in use.

better safe than sorry though!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
