Undeniably the trend is hotter I did punt 34C who knows maybe we will reach 35C? Rather exceptional heat for the British Isles not concentrated for the southeastern corner either, 32C is v impressive for NW.

Weird how it looks like we are going to get two very hot very short spells at the almost the same time in back to back years...how unusual is this?

Heat going to waste far as I am concerned.

Hardly any chance for storms on Tuesday for our area and its humid heat which is the worst!

I expect WH or SS might have a better source, but this says: 23.9°C in Brighton, August 4th 1990.

The humidity is certainly high at the moment. We're at 25.3C with a dewpoint of 19.1C. Its a bit uncomfortable for me but at least we're forecast some thunderstorms later so it'll be worth it.

London Weather Centre recorded 24.0c on the same night.

Ugh, stupid fat cumulus clouds that spread out and cover nearly all of the sky for no apparent reason. Why can't they just clear off?

I don't recall getting one this time last year? I can only remember the record heat on 1st July. Maybe I just like to wipe these wretched conditions from my memory!

There are a few thunderstorms over east Yorkshire but I think this cloud will melt away later this afternoon leading into a clear but very warm and muggy night..tomoz looks a peach, 31c should be ours.

Same last years heat was early July with 36.7C hit on the 1st at Heathrow Airport

"The 15th was generally dry and bright after scattered showers cleared eastern coastal areas in the morning.

A ridge of high pressure on the 16th made for a dry and sunny day although isolated showers broke out in central areas later. Some thunderstorms overnight saw Rothamsted (Hertfordshire) record 38 mm in one hour.

The 17th was mainly dry and bright apart from some isolated showers mainly in the west.

It was mainly dry with sunny spells on the 18th although rain spread into the far north and south later in the afternoon."

To be honest Karl, this is going to be one to forget locally. I'm looking outside now and I can only see a few glimpses of blue sky. Tomorrow looks sunny and hot but that's honestly it for here. 31C seems odds on but I'm afraid one hot day doesn't make a heatwave.

Just slightly disappointed. Was expecting today to be sunny as per the forecast, but I've been proven wrong. Yesterday was much better.

I meant In July of 2 years together. Almost a repeat performance near record heat for such a short duration of time.

Timewise this is happening at the same time as the July 2014 heatwave. I think the July 2013 one also peaked a few days later around the 22nd/23rd.

Same here. Clear in the morning before the sun suddenly turns into a cloud magnet in the afternoon. It's happened far too often this summer and it had better not happen tomorrow...
