Yes it's become clear over recent seasons that they forecast extremes to court headlines. You really wonder whether they ignore the science if it doesn't fit their "forecasts"..

The Azores high is still shown to move closer by early next week so warmer and humid in the south but more unsettled and fresher for the north

Louise Lear looks quite tasty in that first image SS.  i_am_so_happy.gif

Nice to see the possibility of the Az high pushing in to Southern areas, a shame it couldn't sit across the whole of the British Isles though.

The Azores high next week is only going to bring in more rain storms. Louise just said this on BBC weather.

The dominant setup during Summer 1976 appears to have been a jet tracking further north than usual, and a fairly slack but persistent zone of high pressure extending from the Azores to Scandinavia, with pressure rather below average over the Azores itself.  In June and July 1976, highest pressure was often to the east of Britain and southerly winds blew unusually frequently, and then in August the high moved further west, centred over the British Isles for most of the month.  August 1976 had striking similarities with the Augusts of 1947 and 1995, although in most parts of the country it was not quite as exceptionally hot or sunny as the other two.

As for this upcoming July, I think the analogue with the El Nino -> La Nina summer of 1998 is looking set to be quite a good guide.  The upcoming model outputs remind me quite a bit of July 1998, but with depressions often tracking a bit further south.

If we're using 1998 as an analogue TWS then it's a safe bet that the best weather will come in August. September could be wet though.

Time to start thinking about moving somewhere abroad, can't be on with this nearly every summer.

Based on Weatheronline's forecast, the average high from 1-12 July will be just 20.5c! Sunshine levels look awful too.

Just can't see how the month can even end up average now, seeing as the remaining 19 days will need to average between 26-27c, assuming the forecast is accurate.

Maybe August and September will offer some normal summer conditions?

When will we see another worthwhile summer 2029? Only in the UK can weather get worse rather than better as we head into the so called best part of the year..Temperatures start off wamer and get colder.. HERES me thinking it suppose to be the other way around..

it's absolutely dreadful out there today. I would consider this a bad day in November, let alone June.

I don't mind this weather - comfortably fresh & cool - however some sun at times & a few dry days would be nice instead of having to turn the light on during the daytime.

My friend on FB posted something about coming to see her stand at the Norfolk show (not likely as I live miles away) and my first thought was, "What a strange thing, why are they having the Norfolk Show at THIS time of year, I'm sure they used to have it in summer...?" And then I remembered it is summer.

Will be interesting to see the 1990-2020 averages. Given the frequency of cool and cloudy summers over the past 10 years I bet summer temperatures won't have changed at all - or even slightly declined. Sunshine hours will probably show a decrease too.

Basically, our climate is getting worse - but not for the reasons we thought it would in 2006. Probably one of the few places in the world where summers have not warmed.

I wonder how long it'll be before we get a normal summer again, with normal temperatures and sunshine hours?

Do you think it'll happen before or after 2020?

It's bad when the normal July high is around 23-24c, and we should be getting at least 6-8 hrs of sun per day, instead of the numerous overcast days in the forecast.

Exactly Phil, they ignore all logic and basically tell a pack of lies. Exacta said there will be a heatwave next week, what a load of tosh, the models have even taken a backward step since yesterday with no sign of a pattern change in the next few weeks / foreseeable future.
