Was in Walsall last night to watch Shrewsbury Town vs Walsall and arrived at 6.30 after dodging showers along the M54.

Parked up and looked north west to see the sky had turned dark

Was treated to a storm complete with T and L, 8-10 minutes of hail and strong gusty winds. Looking at Radar the core of it was more over towards Wolverhampton but still impressive none the less.

The game kicked off with lots of Hail still on the pitch too which for the third last game of the season was instresting!

Another day of good convective skyscapes, with heavy showers throwing a wintry mix of rain. soft hail, sleet and snow accompanied by the flash and bang. Storms probably more concentrated towards the east today - where lapse rates are forecast to be steepest.

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE FORECAST - WEDNESDAY 27TH APRIL 2016

Synopsis

Large upper low overspreads northern Europe, with a slow-moving surface low centred over Denmark, an unseasonably cold and unstable N to NWly flow covers the UK and Ireland.

... EASTERN SCOTLAND, CENTRAL, SOUTHERN AND EASTERN ENGLAND ...

The coldest mid-upper level temperatures associated with upper low will be across eastern UK and North Sea - so here will see the steepest lapse rates (30-32C between 850-500hPa) and strongest instability developing with surface heating in sunshine. So like Tuesday, showers from the word go this morning across northern and western areas exposed to the NWly flow, then as surface heating increases in the sunny spells, showers becoming widespread inland, bringing a mix of rain, sleet, hail/soft hail and hill snow. Cloud tops gaining sufficient height for scattered thunderstorms to develop too in the above areas - where aforementioned lapse rates / CAPE will be highest. Given weak vertical shear, lack of surface warmth/moisture and high cloud bases, no severe weather is forecast. Any storms will quickly fade after nightfall.

I've been at work in Exeter this morning and have only seen several Towering Cumulus clouds. I was watching my Nest cam live stream from there and watched a hail shower pass through in envy. I'm hoping something else wintry moves through this afternoon.

Interesting how there have been showers approaching from the northwest for a good hour or so now and they keep fizzling out over the Severn Estuary before getting here.

Nice patch of blue sky above me, showers that look like hail round me, not unlike summer.

Nice looking convection to the N from here in the city.  Fuzzy anvils over Staffs with more robust-looking Cu line in the foreground. Another good day for cloudscape photographers, in all.

Very brooding skies to the northwest of here with an almost shelf-cloud like appearance beginning to form. Bright echoes very closeby too.

Thunderstorm here, started 1640, still going, about 5 rumbles/cracks with moderate rain now turned to hail and at times snow, temperature fallen from 7.4C to 5.1C, starting to cover cars/grass

Storm seems to have finished but still hailing, most surfaces now covered, T=3.7C, nope not finished another fairly near rumble.

There was a heavy shower here, dropping 5mm. A bit of slush mixed in, as the temp plummeted from 8.6°c to 4.4°c - I've had more tea breaks than a Polish builder today!

Just had some random hailstones falling out of the blue sky here! Looking very stormy to the NNW! Why is everything going east again? It's driving me up the wall!

@Mapantz, are you sure your webcam is facing ENE? To me it looks more ESE.

It faces ENE, but it has a 102° wide angle view, so you can see NE to SE

That's odd, because all the clouds have been moving straight away from the camera meaning a WSW upper wind even though the showers have been moving from the NW!

Just of Skype with hubby who's in the Aire Valley. On and off snow showers all day apparently and as he was talking it started snowing. No lying snow and it wasn't sticking, but snow nonetheless.

Had a few rumbles of thunder here in south London in the last hour, nothing overhead though.
