The colder air is coming back behind the intense frontal rain which is approaching now from the Irish sea.

Heavy rain preceded by snow then back to rain again at Sellafield today, left a little layer of slush on the windscreens, no lying snow on the local fells around 300M ASL which is surprising.

Heavy snow for a few hours this afternoon, left a thin covering. Knocked the temperature down close to freezing, now at 3.6C, incredible for the time of year and time of day!

Had a little slush on the grass this morning, but far from winter wonderland like the 'Windermere' pic above.  Just heavy rain last hour or so.  May get a bit more slush overnight, but some of the higher ground could get a slightly less wetter element of snow.  Doesn't do anything for me in late April, roll on a warmer trend next week.

Temp slowly dropping away now, the dew point is 2C & this should lower quite quickly after 8 o'clock to below freezing. Things looking quite good tonight/tomorrow morning for snow across the region even on modest height ground, probably a bit more than we had this morning, with no sun today the ground won't have been effected by much solar heating. It won't be like early March though with that heavy fall. But for late April it *could be* interesting. Hope I haven't jinxed it lol :)

Got back from Scotland this afternoon, was -4°C first thing this morning before setting off. Heading southwards from Loch Tay we drove through sleet, snow & hail with temps varying between 1°C to 5°C. Similar story back in Cumbria with heavy wintry showers, max temp on my weather station today has been 5.6°C, checked the calender and yep it's May in less then 3 days...

Well, the lousy British climate has really excelled itself today.  Late April and 5C at teatime and snow expected overnight.  Couldn't make it up :cold::angry:

I suspect this will kill a large number of lambs.

Some amazing showers are coming from the Irish sea, just west of Liverpool as we speak! I can see the cbs to the northwest of me. I expect to see hail in good measure and some thunder too!

Heavy snow showers in our part of the region first thing this morning dropped a couple of inches in a short space of time but it seemed quite localised.

drove down through Cheshire and it was a lovely day and was the same right down to Birmingham.

Oh the joys of living in the Pennines.

Right overhead. This wasn't forecast    Was it? Massive hail.  First storm of 2016.

Was watching sferics  coming closer but  wasn't expecting that. Wow!   Lightning frequency was low but was  right  overhead at one point. Torrential hail left a thick  covering. Still producing sferics, now  inaudible. Other sferics around now  as well from other cells.
