I posted this from the convective thread:

2016-08-24 (1).png 20160824_155510.jpg

I drove in to that fallstreak, and was under that white return, very little rain reaching the surface, just a few convective drops here and there.

Looks like the convective activity to our South is heading into Central Southern England.

As is often the case in such scenarios like this, electrical activity is focused on the eastern flank with the western flank seeing a lot more mid level cloud than anything else.

Therefore counties like Dorset, Hampshire & Wiltshire could have an interesting evening tonight with regards to storm development.

The SW & West Country need to hope for west based development ahead of the mass or hope for further potential in the coming days.

Right now, it's warm here but not as oppressive as this morning with a layer of mid/high level cloud blanketing out the sun.

Same here, rushed to get things in so they wouldn't get wet, after seeing the rain approaching on the radar then nothing! Could do with some rain.

Just about enough rain to dampen the flagstones in the back garden.  Much of what was showing on the radar this afternoon failed to reach the ground, just as Ian predicted last evening.

Only a small amount of the rain that fell reached the ground here this evening. Very humid and temperatures still 21.5°C now.

Well it didn't happen in my part of Dorset, we struggled to get rain, and topped out at 1mm, through the occasional shower, and nothing more. Weymouth managed some storm activity, and Pompey (as usual) seems to have been the place to be for storms last night, in the local area.

Is it me OR does the radar @Dean Hill,  Salisbury seem to have developed a bad case of measles in it's scan?

Was very confused, as was watching the cricket and they were on and off woth rain and some heavy showers at times from the afternoon till 10pm when they gave up.
We had 0.2mm yesterday and it was just the occasional drizzle at times. Not sure at any point I saw any showers of note.
Must have been a very thin line of rain that passed through that Soton area as it missed Poole and went through us with very little.

Looks like a dry today after all week the forecasts showing today as a showery day.
Not as warm as yesterday with its yearly high of 32.1c, but looks to be a 23-25c few days coming up.
It was 23.6c at midnight and is 22.2c now, feels very muggy.
Been very high humidity all night and now 82%. 1014.7 hPa
One of those days when you think the wind vane on weather station has stopped, it is registering 1-2mph, but does not seem to move, NW.

Good Morning all, grey and murcky here in Bristol (work) this morning quite mild though. We did have some overnight rain at home which did wake me with the windows being open, no idea what time that was though.

Very possible given convection from the South is often from mid level cloud which will allow plenty of opportunity for hazy sun/brightness in between the rain and even when it's raining as happened here just yesterday evening and again right now.

It is like a sheet of anaglypta wallpaper has been pulled over the sky today, very droll. I don't think the 25/26°C that was forecast, will be reached today, unless the sun comes out. It's feeling very muggy though.

Temp: 22°C - Hum: 83% - Dew: 19°C - Bar: 1015.61hPa - Wind: WNW @ 2mph.

Sporadic drizzle and slate grey skies without a hint of any sunshine so far today.

Feeling fresher too.

Struggling to see how any convective activity could initiate these here areas today.

Dropped to 24,2c now, but was 24c for most of the morning.
Just had some quick drizzle pass over.
Still very light winds today, WSW.
A very sticky feeling day.

Lovely out there now. I hope it lasts, but there's currently more rain heading up from Northern France. It would be nice if it missed us though, so we can stay outside for tea.

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
