Quite nice not long ago and felt warm. Now turned cloudy and looks like the rain is almost here.

Got up to 16.2°C when the sun was out. Now 14.7°C.

I'm surprised how quickly that rain fell apart after it left Dorset..

An hour ago:

Now:

It was heavy-ish here. 8.2mm has fallen today, i'm also surprised at the lack of heavier downpours and thunder to be honest.

Just looking out my window (South) and there's a big ass 'anvil' (think that's the term?)

A nice cell has just cruised over us with torrential rain and some lightning. Currently still raining and I can see stars, along with back edge of the cell. Nice one..

A cracking downpour here, too. 101mm/hr rate. I saw some lightning over your way, after passing here.

that is huge, any intercloud lightning?

Not that I could see, still bright outside et al, however I followed it on the rain radar and also on satellite imagery. At 1800 and 1805 (BST) it looked more like it had a 'hook', then sometime after that (about 30-60 mins), it was dumping its guts - a well defined circle of Purple (on NW radar) ... it was totally mad how ferocious it seemed on radar.
I've never seen one so big in my life.

Last nights active cell produced a peak rainfall rate of 102.86mm/hr, it certainly was chucking it down. This morning as I was about to walk out the door another cell decided it was a good time to drop it's lot!, so that's propped the rainfall for the last 2 days up to 32.5mm.

Yes it was definitely one bolt of lightning and thunder - we were directly under an intense storm cell, with high anvil towers - ( I saw the lightening, heard the boom, sure enough went outside and the anvil was clearly visible in the moonlight as it passed - radar view also showed the cell (intense rain fall five mins before). Anyone care to give them some meteorological evidence in the comments?!! lol!

(Mind you... the flash seemed very bright and very quick - more like a bolt having hit something - so not sheet.. so I can see why meteor...Perhaps I am wrong and it was!)
