A comparatively fresh sunny day here with humidity at 40-45% for much of this afternoon. The humid air hasn't arrived yet.

That's interesting you say that, the humidity has been around double that here, hence the more muggier feel.

it's not interesting to be honest, mp-r has stated fact....you might feel that it's muggier, but it's not, RH is low, we haven't really tapped into any moisture yet from Iberia, our air is currently sourced from scandinavia and is dry, a look at tonights projected temps show this, lows around 4C, ground temps hovering around 0c, dewpoints will be in the negative value, hardly humid....come friday and into saturday humidity will rise as we tap into a more moisture laden Iberian feed

AJ, I find it interesting! Why say something like that? Ok, this is really off topic now! In fact, if you look at my website, you'll see that the humidity was higher here!

I'm sorry, but what do you mean? The upper level is coming from the SE!

What time are you referring to your humidity reading, William? Humidity tends to increase significantly during the darker hours, especially on chilly clear nights like tonight. The temperature falls quickly but the dew point remains relatively constant.

We are in a fairly dry air mass to be fair, dew points are well down into single figures.

It did seem rather high, in the 70's when I looked?

I'm close to Poole harbour, and not that far inland from the South coast to be fair, and I was down in the low 40's for a time, this afternoon.

look at the source....cool dry flow, low dewpoints from Scandinavia .....ion sharp contrast, look at the flow over the weekend, that's from where the increasing humidity will be felt

Relative humidity is not the best measure of the amount of actual moisture in the air. It is simply a measure of how much moisture there is in the air RELATIVE to the amount it can actually hold. Cold air can hold less, warm air holds more. You can have freezing cold mornings in winter with relative humidities approaching 100%, but that doesn't mean there's actually much moisture in the air.

Alright, maybe the flow of air was coming from Scandinavia yesterday, but today that won't be the case as we see temperatures already 4°C above forecast even this early in the day!

As I stated in my previous post on this thread, temperatures are widely above forecast so far today, allowing it to be a pleasantly warm and slightly humid start to the day here.

thats some microclimate you have there.............anyhoos, moving on, a cool fresh start to the day here, cloudless skies, but feeling very pleasant in and out of the shade......increasingly warmer air will start to push up from the continent over the next 24-36 hours, a good indicator of this is to watch the increasing amount of yellow and oranges on the 850hpa GFS charts as a plume of warmer air starts to advect northwards, dewpoints/humidity values will rise appropriately, especially over the weekend as surface temps widely reach the low 20's in a SE'erly feed

AJ, I could be sweltering this time tomorrow if our microclimate stays in place!:yahoo:

Anyway, just so everyone knows, I managed to receive a replacement Nest cam the other day because my other one kept turning off all the time! Here's the new Nest cam live stream URL: https://video.nest.com/live/OIJL3I
