we seem too far north and west, huge storms on raintoday but not in this area

With BBC weather having the Midlands to be primed for storms well into the night, it could kick of anywhere.....?

But yes huge storms in the south Midlands ATM drifting north :D

If it is clearing up in mid Wales then I think that is it for this neck of the woods. No storms today really thought we may have dropped lucky today but this is Telford! To cap it off they have given rain out for Saturday! My bloody wedding day! Bog of mother nature your not invited lol!!

They are hanging around and pivoting from the NW now as the wind has changed direction.

Had another couple or 3 thundery showers getting very near indeed.

DWW.....

Yep, Ive noticed that.

The clouds cam down from the north west about 5 o clock.

In the last hour the clouds seem to pivotting and now have swung  round to the North East.

It seems as though the big cell over Buckinghamshire is developing a circulation of its own. I've just noticed odd storms over Lincolnshire spring up and starting to move this way. It looks like its developing into an MCS.

Don't think they will hit us though!

Very interesting.

Well nice to see the radar pep up once the front got past Telford! I would have been happy with some heavy rain. But the Telford storm sheild remained on full power and made sure that no showers penetrated it!

Some rain now, but there's no electrical activity within 60 miles, so barring some sudden change, the chance has gone.

The only reason we have more thunderstorms today is before there is a trough, a line of instability gradually crossing the country, other areas is due to the hills and mountains, where the air gets forced up and forms cumulonimbus clouds.

Thank you. So if the trough had passed through, where barometer pressure was low, say 1009 instead if 1024 as it is just now, would that have made a difference?

Anyway, at gone 11pm, we have not yet had a drop od rain all day.

Good night all & again, thank you Sparkiee.

The one near Macclesfield has got my attention now. Seems to spit out 3 or 4 sferics then nothing for 5 minutes & it will probably pass to the East, but I might get to see a few flashes.

Probably not, because there was a big amount of energy in the air today so all it needed was that little bit of instability from the trough to spark things off no matter how high or low the pressure was, if there was less energy in the air, then it would make a difference so there wouldn't of been such massive downpours and storms.

Hope that helps :)

Thank you, you are brill. Coventry did not have a drop of rain yesterday, the cell to the south of us lost its energy, whilst at the same time we also had a change in ground wind direction from the north. I went outside at mid-night, the ground was bone dry, but the air felt & smelt wet.

Again thank you, Sparkiee.

Heavy rain for the last 15 minutes in Dudley, and just heard the first quite loud rumble of thunder. 18.8C and 89% humidity.  We had a little bit of rain yesterday and a few rumbles from around 5.30pm.

RAF Cosford is equal first on the main page with top temperature today @ 25ºC so not surprised it's kicking off now. Rumbles of thunder and pouring with rain Perton West of Wolverhampton I've been told.

Completely dry here in Bewdley! We had a few spots about 3pm, and since then nothing, though it's overcast and very oppressive.

Some significant flash flooding around by the sound of this tweet from London Midland.
