Well we had some light rain here during the morning mixed with brighter intervals. Some sunny spells this afternoon and completely missing the showers yet again.

That is one big ol' storm over the Norfolk/Suffolk border right at the moment.

That Norfolk storm looks quite impressive! Lucky buggers lol. Here it's been a pleasant day, felt lovely in the sunny spells but like yesterday, a lot of cloud has bubbled up this afternoon unfortunately. Still, a nice warm 17C with light-ish winds.

Trust us to choose today to visit Stonham Barns!  We left early as there was a massive storm angling across the site from south-west to north-east, and we weren't sure whether it would hit or not.  We've now driven back through the western half of the multi-cell storm, with driving rain, bursts of hail and probbly a dozen lightning strikes, some pretty close to the A140 as we drove north.  Strikes were probably 2/3rds IC, 1/3rd CG, but one or two of the CG strikes seemed very powerful indeed.  There's surface flooding in Long Stratton, and water was coming out of the surface water drains, so, if anyone's now going to drive around the south Norfolk/north Suffolk area, be aware that you may have a great deal of standing water to contend with.

We're now back home, and the sun's trying to make its way through any slight gaps in the strato/cumuloform clouds.

think this cell has died, dark enough to be raining heavily, but just spitting and no thunder.

The last 40 mins I've heard thunder from the cell to the west.

Fantastic chase. Encountered marble sized hail between Huntingdon and sawtry, thunder which shook the ground and set alarms off in sawtry village with the fire brigade out in full force and some cracking multiple forked lightning. Storm addiction very well fed today :D!!

Yep, until I read your post I didn't even realise it had started raining.

And, after a day of warm sunshine and thunder, the fog is moving in off the fens... And, we've had three thunder-days in a row!:D

It is bewildering last year there were many busts with much more conducive parameters for severe storms what you can take from this - you never know what may happen on the day. I have been fairly absent from this site in the last month or so but ECM caught my attention at T240 has some striking depth of arctic air a direct hit for UK. I have not seen anything like it before for the time of year aside from the unseasonable cold temps - convective possibilities too, however the chance of a damaging v. late season frost has not receded I'm afraid.

Daniel the upper atmosphere maybe cold, but surface temps tomorrow around 11-12 with 12-14 Sunday

Night time temps prehaps a touch of frost if you are mega unlucky but yes you are right strange to see something like this so late in April.

With the sun stronger and stronger it should actually feel pleasant this weekend in any sun and light winds

Not the "artic blast" some keep mentioning far from it down south

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
