Other than wind & rain and lots of it certainly over the next week or so, "winter" looks just about dead to me. Not that it even got going of course. There isn't even a whiff of excitement in the long-range. Just more of the same. PV in over-drive, wind/rain/cool/rinse/repeat. Total and utter crap. Anyone else throwing the towel in?

Yeah, Ive already thrown it in, this weather is more depressing then being a Col U fan.........and thats bad as you know lol

Guys please, don't compare model run by model run you don't do this only within 24 hour period there after throw it out.. We have to wait till late tomorrow/ Saturday for Saturday nights winds to nail it and then Sunday to nail Monday also ignore all general wind speeds on these websites they are based on the GFS I think and all computer modeled wait for the high res models to roll out late tomorrow...

100% agreed

A 'fluid' weekend coming up.

We have Saturday & Sunday to contend with.

Saturday -

image.thumb.png.56e74c2160ffdcf60b923067

Mean wind speeds widely between 30-40 mph.

image.thumb.png.f2bbd0f691d1fa6f28fa3748

Some areas especially eastern fringes seeing 6 hours of gusts in the Mid 50's winds packing the greatest strength for windward coastal strip the wind is blowing from the south.

Sunday - (into Monday).

image.thumb.png.15bd46b701555a4e9fcfc47e

Worse this appears to be faster moving and through the dark hours, however the entire region at risk of seeing gusts in the low 60's.

image.thumb.png.95606f9c6bec021f3643b9b3

Mean wind speeds again between 30-40mph so a very windy weekend coming up, I doubt much change will occur to change this.

Saturday

image.thumb.png.b377798a63a3c13f5ed489c2

An absolute washout for us all expect warnings 24 hours of moderate to heavy rain roughly 20-40mm anticipated widely to the west of our region, flooding concerns no doubt about that:

Sunday

image.thumb.png.0db7a557d965565411a8ddb6image.thumb.png.9eb2e8fc9699663742a0015c

Starts of dry but goes rapidly downhill into evening, not only windy but wet as well characteristic of 13/14 Winter, interestingly February is statistically the direst month.

Monday - starting on a wet note!

image.thumb.png.8ccf111332fe964411af77f3

In essence a rather wet, disturbed outlook the ECM offering some hope on a wintry interest.

Agree, as it stands the south coast and especially northern France would take the brunt of the strongest winds with many of us escaping the worst, but move the system north slightly and we're all in for it. Could move a bit south too of course, or downgrade, but one to watch for sure.

Looking at Monday's event, that was a good call stainesbloke. Daniel has already posted lots of informative charts above, but just to add the Arpege chart for "max gusts up to 17.00 Mon 8th" it shows the worst of the strong winds in the Channel and clipping the very South coast and Kent. I wouldn't like to be on a cross-channel ferry over the next few days! :bad:

Great I make it into the purple, 68 - 75mph. Think I'll hibernate on Monday.

Okay so we are firming details up now here we go... The 06z rolling out now and moves us back on for Monday but for now im leaving Monday and focusing on Saturday and Sunday..

So Tomorrow..

Rain looks pretty mental for a time and Met have a warning out for this...

Wind:

Inland 40-55mph

Coast: 55-65mph

Nasty old day... This then clears and leaves us in a brief calm window Sunday day time maybe some sunshine before the next onslaught begins...

Sunday night looks grim!

Heavy rain and even stronger winds!

60-65mph inland

70-75mph coast

1b.thumb.png.2fdee0a676eaf7aea0d5cdd32703b.thumb.png.08718696d568591de5a61cebda9

Then there is Monday which I won't go into yet as waiting on Sunday mornings runs... Flooding, trees down due to saturated ground and perhaps some coastal flooding this weekend to come.

So it's our turn to batten down the hatches! It's my sisters party this weekend which I really wanted her to have some nice weather for.. Far from it

Nicely summed up. Utter Pants. The cold offered is always highly dubious and has been the case for the whole duration of this winter in essence. It will deliver to the few favoured spots I doubt if our region will see anything out of it

Wind starting to get up now, nothing major, gusting between about 30 - 35 mph. I expect this will seem like the calm before the storm compared to what may be coming.

Last time I looked east Kent coast not inside the warning zone. Expect that to be upgraded  as winds exit East ....?

Brought my washing in, as wet as it was putting it out on the line, nothing like getting slapped in the face by wet washing, so now drying on the radiator as it is drizzly out there, still more wind and rain to come how exciting, cant wait :p

Hi all

What's the situation re wind likely to be on Monday afternoon? I have a flight from Gatwick to Norway at 1420 and am a little concerned about delay potential. I've already resigned myself to a bumpy take off!

While I said earlier I wasn't looking at Monday as it's a little far out I will for you :D the 12z run ramped monday up big time and this is why I'm being cautious about it.. The 06z had the worst winds in the channel while the 12z.. Well see below

I have a fear of flying so if I saw that chart when I was going, I wouldn't be getting on the plane fullstop haha!!

I have myself but judging by the jetstream forecast and the relative lack of thunderstorms at this time of year it shouldn't be too bad once we clear the clouds. At least the plane has wifi, so there will be a level of distraction.
