One of my neighbours pipes running down from the gutter just got torn off by the wind and it wasn't even that strong of a gust, maybe 60ish. Just shows what the power of the wind can actually do.

With the cold air still up above it'll be worth getting up early in the morning for most, as there's a good chance the nacreous clouds will still be around.

Not particularly windy overnight  expected more posts so perhaps less than expected elsewhere but still nasty unless the power has gone off.....

Wind continued through the night here, a steady decrease from about 4am onwarsd though.  Not enough sleep with all the racket.

Seriously jealous of all the nacreous cloud obs, all I've seen here is greyness and incessant diagonal rain.

Hi all,

The Nacreous Clouds were even brighter here this morning than last nights.

Such a treat to see. Last time we saw them here was 20 yrs ago !

(Laughed at the Donald Trump's hair remark on my last posting Moki !)

One of my friends does oil rig work (power systems) and flies out on the helicopters in all weathers within limits. I'd just be uselessly sick from the flight - and as for a boat...I would ask for anaesthesia!

One of the boat operators on the Western Isles mentioned this earlier (I quote)

Quote

"the Waverider Buoy which sits around 20 miles west of South Uist, had waves peaking at over 16.5m (55 feet) on Monday evening. And the Saral Altika Satellite system made a measurement of 19.3m (63.5 feet) during one of its passes!"

Truly a phenomenal sea, I hope the fishermen stayed in for that one.
