Loving this settled weather! Not especially warm here but can't really complain with all the sunshine.

yes, you don't get affected by the north sea mist, here took until 11am to partially burn off, 1pm fully

An absolutely gorgeous day here. Lighter winds generally today here. Really pleasant. A great week so far. :)

Im happy with all this dry weather too, but i just wish the temperatures would be a touch higher. However it is only March and Its like looking for cold in mid September. One cant get too picky for warmth so early in the season. Plenty of time for something nice and warm and the sight of some lovely early warmth on the 12Z in FI is a reminder that warmer times are just round the corner.

Yes as Frosty posted, for my location I want the GFS FI to come off, not the ECM, if I lived at 250m asl though, would be cheering the ECM for snowy Easter party

April to June outlook from The Weather Company (formally WSI)

Seasonal Outlook: The Weather Company Forecasts More Cool Weather in April Across Western Europe

Early Look Suggests Another Cool and Wet Summer Across the UK

March 21, 2016

Andover, MA

In its latest seasonal outlook for the aggregate April-June period,, The Weather Company, an IBM Business is forecasting widespread above-normal temperatures across Europe, with near or slightly below-normal temperatures confined to parts of the UK, along with northern France and Benelux. Wet and windy weather is expected across much of the mainland into Scandinavia, with drier and less windy conditions expected across southeastern Europe.

“A strong blocking pattern has set up across Europe for the first time since mid-January, and that is driving a rare spell of colder weather across much of the continent. As we look ahead to April, a very rare late-winter breakdown of the stratospheric polar vortex will likely increase the odds of below-normal temperatures across parts of western and northern Europe - re-establishing a cool and wet weather pattern,” said Dr. Todd Crawford, Chief Meteorologist, The Weather Company. “As we look ahead to summer, much of the early evidence suggests that another cool and wet summer for the UK and parts of northwestern Europe, while the biggest risks for sustained summer heat extend from Iberia eastward and northward into western Russia.”

For the April to June 2016 time period, The Weather Company is forecasting the following conditions:

April:

Nordic Region*- Warmer than normal , except southern Norway

UK* - Cooler than normal

Northern Mainland* - Warmer than normal east, cooler than normal west

Southern Mainland* - Warmer than normal east, cooler than normal west

May:

Nordic Region - Warmer than normal

UK - Cooler than normal

Northern Mainland - Warmer than normal east, cooler than normal west

Southern Mainland - Warmer than normal east/west, cooler than normal central

June:

Nordic Region - Warmer than normal

UK – Cooler than normal

Northern Mainland - Warmer than normal

Southern Mainland - Warmer than normal

The change has finally come! Gone are the harsh cold winds of the past 2 weeks and its been much more pleasant and springlike today. Its amazing what an increase of only 3/4c can do.

Was expecting rain today however the pitiful front seems incapable of producing anything for west yorkshire due to a rain shadow. Could well be Saturday before rainfall which would be 16 full days without precipitation.

Well it definately looks like March will end up as an incredibly benign and average month with little in the way of extremes. Even the temperatures havent shown much deviation, starting off cold/chilly and rising 3/4c to end the month, pretty much in line with the expected rise in temps through March.

Nice to see that even in spells of sub 0c upper temps such as this coming Sunday/Monday we are still forecast to achieve double figure maxes over a wide area.

I suspect we'll stay fairly close to climatology as ENSO region cools through neutral through towards la Nina. It's what happens then that's interesting. Some talk of us heading towards a fairly strong Nina as we head through the summer, this backed up by the Metoffice Glosea model

2cat_20160301_sst_months46_global_deter_

It allies the Nina with a wetter and cooler than average summer period for the UK- which is fairly par for the course with a Nina summer following a Nino winter. 1998 was a case in point I think.

Still, I have a feeling May could well produce some prolonged dry weather and I suspect this will go down well with quite a few.

Oh no, dry May followed by a wet summer - worst combination! I was hoping the El Nino conditions would persist through spring with the neutral period coming through the summer. :(

Just to echo Crewe's post, 1998 was a poor Summer for heat. Just looked at that Summer and Manchester airport reached 25C only on 2 occasions throughout the Summer and not any higher. If this happens again then it will be disappointing for those who want heat like we had in 2013 or even what we had at the start of July last year. Still Summer is a long way off yet in meteorological terms.

NOAA's very recent update seems to suggest it will be late summer or even Autumn until La Niña kicks in. Neutral conditions at least more likely for early summer. :)
