Now it's come a bit lighter I notice that there has been melt overnight. Especially on roofs and pavements.

BBC forecast 2 days ago for Sat (North Wales): high pressure, sunshine, high cloud then thick cloud for afternoon, snow from dusk with some sleet at low level, frost overnight

Reality: no sunshine, no snow (but rain), no frost.  Even Kent have lying snow and had sunshine. :)

We are too north for decent sunny spells on many Summer days.

We are too west for decent thunderstorms.

We are too south (or west) for decent snowfall at lower level.

We are too east for rare HP influence from the Atlantic.

Wales should be moved to the Eastern side of the UK... :)

The FAX chart for midnight just gone was interesting. Suggests a triple point passed through our region. That was probably the area of preciptation that came down from Cumbria and parts of the Irish Sea that gave the more significant snowfalls. May also explain the strange tracking of areas of preciptation to the south that seem to go from SW to NE.

Here  are some depths I have gathered, Manchester airport has had around 4cm, Oldham 5c, Chadderton 3cm, Littleborough 10cm, Buxton 5cm, Macclesfield 3cm, Stoke 2cm, Leeds 2-5cm, Manchester City 1cm.

And Wirral/Liverpool city centre has 0cm! Seriously we must be the worst place in the region, stil only seen sleet :nonono:

Some snow melt overnight but the skies cleared at some point and it's now very icy, current temp -1.2c.

Yesterday was quite an unusual setup, not often you see a frontal system track down from W Scotland slicing through the centre of the UK, meaning the NW was in the best spot. Pity it was mostly light stuff, and there was a temporary milder feed that turned things a bit wet.

Alas I'm not complaining, it was a feature that sprung up out of the blue. We've got about 2 inches outside, enough to build a decent snowman, and with no wind, it is a lovely scene with every twig and branch lined.

Not expecting much of a thaw today - some surfaces yes, roads, house roofs etc.

Plenty of snow here and also icicles which must have formed overnight - I think a brisk walk with the dogs is called for later.

Snow overnight heavy at times, we have light snow now. Surfaces have seen melt, cars still have snow on them. Measured 2.2cm, roads and pavements pretty much clear along with roof

Nice covering here but of no great depth, about 2cm on undisturbed areas.  Footfall & traffic easily as slushing it down so it could look messy in a few hours.  Need to get in the fields.
