You're wrong. It'll be the other way around, if anything. Rain to snow.

Not sure Backtrack. For that area, the more east the precip is, more likely of it turning to rain/sleet or being rain/sleet all along. We'll see, tricky one.

Although updated arpege may suggest otherwise!

All frost on the rooftops has now melted! The snow didn't even settle on the frost... Fail

The ARPEGE 6z is out and it has shifted the snow line slightly west which is better for our region...

What web site is that on?

Looking at the latest models, I would say places from Warrington to Manchester could do surprisingly well out of this sliding system.

It's still early so don't be disheartened at the moment, were only at 1PM.

Temperatures will begin to fall again soon enough, although a little rise is expected around this time.

It's going to be more of a now cast, rather than a forecast, as some places 5 miles down the road will be getting snow, and the other side will be rain/sleet until later on in the night.

I would expect the Peaks to do well, aroundMacclesfield Forest / Teggs Nose way.

It could be that light snow which could fall for a 1,000 years and still not settle to leave a covering.

Indeed, if there wasn't snow falling you'd just think we'd had a rain shower!

Nothing worse than that Liam...

Looking at the radar it does seem a few more heavier bursts are coming through rather than the light precipitation.

Just light so far and melting instantly on ground contact :(

Silly question but when to temps peak in the day at this time of year?

Just wondering, as there are clearer spells here now and would be a great for temps to drop before the precipitation moves in.

My max temp was 2-3pm yesterday but should start to fall after 3pm as sun gets lower & under clear skies of course.

The peak should be about now, temps should start falling soon.

Well the arpege model run looks great. At least the prep is going straight over me. Sleet or snow??? Heavy enough to settle????

if it was just a bit colder

Cheers. :)   Just seems 'darker' now so hopefully the temps will drop soon as we can only be a temp or two above freezing if that.

Could be some surprises... Here in NE Wales close to the Cheshire border we've had light rain which is now turning to sleet and wet snow.

Looks like evap cooling could also help.

Yellow Warning of Snow for Southport and West Lancashire

People living across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire are getting ready to let it snow, after the Met Office this morning issued a Yellow Warning of Snow for North West England.

The 'Be Aware' warning is in place from 11am today (Saturday, January 16) and lasts until 6am on Sunday (January 17).

Areas covered by the warning include: Blackburn with Darwen, Blackpool, Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Halton, Lancashire, Merseyside & Warrington.

It follows sub-zero temperatures overnight and into this morning, which have left cars, roads and pavements left covered in ice.

1.9c here in Southeast Liverpool.  Temperature rise definitely slowing down. Birmingham and Coventry at 4c and they are expected a lot more snow than Liverpool.

Stopped now, would have preferred it to have stayed clear all day maybe the frost would have lingered in places all day, now all wet.

Evaporative cooling should play a large part :) it'll start as rain I'm guessing, turning to snow after dark, this is my view anyway.
