Well, I may be wrong but the snow line would be pretty close to NE wilts looking at the animation till now - as per the BBC graphics I guess...Not sore if the DP or temps will be low enough here though.

BBC Weather's snowfall projections for this evening/tonight as today has progressed:

Hard to imagine why the latest update has returned west with the snow line and increased the overall precipitation amounts... recent observation data indicates the opposite trend at least with the positioning.

I do wonder if on Monday we can get enough of a SE flow (or at least E of S) to encourage a cold air undercut from the near continent. The more to the E the better if you're near the coast, of course.

ICON looks to deliver a flow just E of SE which is pretty decent. The flow then veers east during the night.

Overcast with temp of 1.7C and a WBDP 1.2, it's borderline to say the least.

Not sure weatherwise that a good week is upon us. Looks like this cold air will put a fight against the invasive mild air from the west. However in the southwest (Devon at least) we'll be in between the two. So not cold enough for snow not mild enough to be comfortable. If you love cold rain your luck is in!

Light rain here in the Mendips.

Can anyone remember what the synoptic set up was which led to the snow in early February 2009? It's by far the best snow event I've had in the 18 years of living here, a good 10 inches deep which hung around for days.

Amen to that. But if it's anything like this, then no thanks. So annoyed, I've been thoroughly engrossed by the models over the past 10 days, I'm shattered, and for what? 2 frosts and a maximum day time temperature of 6.2c. That's not a bleeping cold spell. Come February the sun will be higher, the days longer and it becomes much harder to get laying snow, especially in our neck of the woods. I want an easterly with deep cold uppers and channel low after channel low with us right on the northern flank or I'm not interested. I'd rather an early spring..:wallbash:

anyway back to the models

Hehe - it's hard in the SW.... but bear in mind that February - for all the sun issues - is the best month in the uk for snow. Continental cold tends to be more embedded, seas are a little cooler, and the atlantic typically has slowed down a little. El Nino years in particular tend to have a colder second half - and this is day 1 of the second half...

So disappointing probably this week but a long way from game over. Go get some sleep...!

I no, but I felt entitled to a bit of a moan lol, a few days away from the models will see me right. Although I'll check them tomorrow morning as really for me, that's the last glimmer of hope in this cold(ish) spell for a change.

I'm hopefull for Feb, but I'll leave at that for now.

3 points for AFC tomorrow and this will be all forgotten.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
