That little front is really pepping up, will coincide with falling temps into darkness so some could get lucky.

Even if it heads south sure the welsh mountains and probably the Cotswold would be the fly in the ointment. :sorry:

Invigorating  drive across Dartmoor (Headland Warren) today, good covering of snow and a proper skid pan especially when you meet another car, I love proper Winter. Bring it on.

Just checked the North West thread and most are getting sleet/rain from that ppn heading SE.

we should get the benefit of cooling before/if any of it gets here thanks to the lights going off soon

Latest GFS looks like a good upgrade for snow on Monday for some of our region.

The ppn is further west, the snow line still as it was though

I wouldn't take any notice of the GFS PPN charts. It's a complex and marginal situation that no model has a good handle on.  Your just setting yourself up for disappointment otherwise.

Hi all.

Another long time lurker here although I have insanely posted once or twice in the model output thread !

I remember some of the frontal snow events from times past so would be great to see another one this year but as ever its all very much on a knife edge.

No snow so far in my part of North wilts.

Welcome to the UK's friendliest bunch of weather folk, I'm sure you'll find good things going on in the thread, and a lot less stressful than the MOD thread, under all seasons!

In general terms the GFS does seem to be holding onto the colder air longer on this run and the latest Meto update seems to go along with this.

I think next week could get very interesting for many.

I showed the kids the rain today site and told them all about snow forecasting, they weren't interested, bloody 5 year olds! I miss my year 6s, they loved a good old snow ramp and radar watching was always on in the background of every lesson.

So what's the latest in snowville?

Re the 'Monday Event' don't get too hung up on the GFS precipitation models...this is going to the wire in our location and will probably chop and change right up to the time it arrives. Elevation is likely to be key though...

There's also a feature modeled on Sunday which currently looks to cross the east of our region coming down from the north. Think this  was mentioned earlier today and is still there!

Currently showing as snow on GFS and the French Arpege short range model:

That trough was also on this mornings EURO4.  Am eagerly awaiting said 12z update, although previous forecast trajectory suggests a little too far east for many of us.

Just shows how such features seemingly emerge at near - time

I remembered at 03.00 this morning (when getting up for a pee and checking to see if anything had fallen) that lamp post watching is now impossible between 0000-05.30 around here thanks to the council turning off street lights to save money!

Monday is soo far away those predictions will not be accurate. More interesting is how features are popping up in the cold flow. Last night's showers, tonight's showery band and maybe even something running South tomorrow night. Kind of makes me wish we could stay in the Northerly flow as it would only be a matter of time until a proper front occurred.

Andy, not sure you should be talking about having a pee and checking to see if anything had fallen, in the same sentence!!!!!! Moving quickly on............

A stunning afternoon. Sunshine, light winds and a bitter cold feel when out walking this pm. Love it. :yahoo:

Mostly sleet or snow showers now, anyone lucky enough to get a flurry may get a covering, temps dropped from 4.6 to 2.5 in last hour. Be freezing by the time that gets here.

On it's current track I would say the big city has a better chance than even our most northerly of this team, for the showers kicked off in the cheshire gap.

Had a lovely day out with Evening thunder on Dartmoor. 3 inches of snow has fallen around Two Bridges. I took several photos and had lots of graupel showers! :D
