Morning all

Cloudy this morning but quite mild. Temp 9,5C and wind SW 15mph gusting 30. Looks like a band of rain on the occlusion should pass through here between 1000 -1100 on it's way east. Could be quite heavy for a while.

On the cold and snow front the GFS this morning is a disaster area  (black crepe abounds in that thread) and looks increasingly unlikely in the south west and elsewhere come to that.

The ecm has a depression running into N. France on Weds night but this will just produce rain in our area.

Lots of thundery showers today across the SW. I had one just after 06:00 with hail, was quite good, certainly haven't seen anything like it since at least last Summer. Good luck everyone!

Torrential Rain here through early hours dumped 8mm. Cloudy currently but all eyes to SW, thundery rain developing and expected here mid to late afternoon.

Football cancelled again, Oxford City haven't played for 3 weeks now. Meh.

Looking pants for our region I see. I'll be back home in the land of wet and mild sunday. I started to get frost nip outside on Thursday evening when I got lost looking for northern lights out in woods. Took photo for you all. Discovered that -35c is my limit, wore 26 items of clothing and still hurts to be outside.

Wow, I've only ever experienced -25c when I was skiing once. It made the hairs in my nose freeze when I breathed in, Eye watering!!!

So jealous, I bet it's fantastic.

Grey and dark today, stark contrast to yesterday.

Bit disappointed that next week is looking like a wet fart... not far off standard January fare tbh. Hopefully upgrades in the models and some nice surprises a la 14th Jan last year.

All this talk in the mod thread about a channel low later next week & yet all the south is looking at is rain, things must be getting really bad for cold/snow fans down here if even a channel low can't deliver for us!

Yes we all know the track of that low is far from certain but I don't think any model run so far that has shown that system has any snow from the midlands south, not yet anyway.

Cold rain really doesn't float my boat, if that's all I got to look forward to then I'd rather have the balmy temps of December back (although I wouldn't want the flooding issues to come back up north of course).

I'm actually glad that that channel low isn't forecast as snow now as we always end up bitterly disappointed, been burned for too many times before. Better that we get a nice surprise (wishful thinking)

Just had a heavy downpour come through, stronger S wind now. As the Low to the SW winds in and heads further inland and into central southern england.

lol typical weather. When no rain is forecast, we get  downpours. Today, we're under a warning, and hardly any rain. :)

Agreed.  Great site, have bookmarked it for future reference.

You can have my rain, Mapantz!  It's been pouring down and blowing a gale for the last two hours.

Really beefy showers all afternoon, hail mixed in. The water is pouring down off the moors.

Can't give any technical detail I'm afraid. I asked santa for a weather station for Christmas but he got me an iMac instead, so I'm really not complaining. Trouble is my birthday isn't until July. :D

Cheers.
I'm using their API which is free from http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/datapoint
You get a special key to provide the overlay data, then you need an API key from Google, for the maps. :)

Seem to be missing all the showers, amazingly. lol

Had some strong gusts of wind though, 40mph one just a moment ago- isn't too shabby for here.
