It's a long time since I saw blowing snow drifting around here in the south of the UK, so I have to admit to a bit jealousy.....in fact, a lot of jealousy!! :)

Thanks to some great photographers the current cold spell just keeps on providing us with fantastic pics of the snow covered Scottish Mountains. It's going to be a shame if the forecast upcoming milder, wetter spell washes away these beautiful scenes!

Here was Glencoe last week sent by my daughter a few days ago. Fresh snow and sunshine. She is up at Glenshee today so might get a photo from the East side later.

Profits slump as range suffers from bad winter

Quote

Hit by a lack of snow and closed for 30 days because of high winds, the centre, on Aonach Mor mountain near Fort William, suffered its second worst winter last winter since its 1989 opening, according to its annual results for the 12 months to the end of last October.

A snow sports season that got off to a bad start with the storm-lashed slopes only open for two days over the Christmas period came to an “abrupt end” following a major thaw on March 29, with the resort having recorded a “dismal total” of 10,200 skier days, compared with 26,760 the previous year.

Just to clarify. This was 2016/17 Winter, not the one just finishing.

This year has been a big success for Scottish skiing which has not yet finished at Nevis, Glencoe and Cairngorm and has just closed at Glenshee yesterday.

Further snowfalls in the Scottish mountains are likely during the remainder of this month and well into May with chilly showery airstreams looking set to predominate over Scotland for the next fortnight!

Nevis is now closed. Cairngorms last day is Sunday 29th April and Glencoe closes after the bank holiday Monday 7th May. There may well still be skiable snow but there will not enough people skiing to justify the costs of opening from then on.

Glencoe closed for the season yesterday with yet another great day for skiing. Some regulars are saying that this has been the best year ever when combining snow cover, snow conditions and decent weather. Ironically this follows what was possibly the worst year ever in 2016/7.

Oops. Glencoe doesn't close until next Monday. Still open this week until after the bank holiday.

Milder and often cloudy forecast means that conditions will not be as good as last week though.

Uppers cold enough for snow over the highest tops tonight.
