I'm getting very excited

If I was a Scottish inhabitant I'd be wondering what the fuss is, coming up 3 years since IMBY we saw its last decent snow, I'm somewhat hopeful tonight the timing is my only concern.

Hubs is making a stew tonight.

Will say we are getting some clouds and a milky looking sun.

Just been watching the animated movement of today's snow band and am I just being wishful here or is it sliding significantly further east than was initially projected ?

Hi everyone, been a serious lurker on here for years, every year i follow listening to your excellent and thankfully friendly advice, I was so hoping for an 'event' tonight,  its looking a bit less likely now I guess but stranger things have happened at sea!

I will be checking radars/weather stations/ this thread mostly today, between houseworking and cooking a very hot curry for tonight!

Good luck everyone!

xx

Not sure if already posted but latest hi res NAE follows most forecasts and looks about right based on current obs. Further west you are in our region the better as things stand.

HI Paget.  Glad you will be joining us, it could be a long night! Hope curry isn't too hot, the last thing you want is to raise temperatures in the Farnham area! LOL

The one I can see looks like it was done last night

out of date

I think it's best to wait for the 12z runs to get a handle on where this precip will fall. it's likely to be 100 miles wide at most and generally light by the time it reaches  the Home Counties.  the thing with rainfall/snowfall is its very much nowcasting re intensity. a few mm is irrelevant when it's raining  but soo important if it's snowing.

And the problem with this band is the western portion is likely to be sleet/rain so edging it further east doesn't necessarily help. You might think it increases the margin for error re if the precip is over you but it might just increase the chance that you get wet not white!

Get out the snow magnets and if we both face the right direction hopefully we can draw it over to us  and either way am already getting excited at the prospect of the slightest chance. A fun day/evening/night of popping in and out the thread, radar and lampost watching to come. My fav type of day. Love it even if we get nothing..Good job my fiance is as keen as me over it all and is not at all clued up on the pc so it's my job to keep popping back and giving updates :nonono: a woman's work is never done eh :diablo:

Good idea, we don't want this being a marginal event if we can help it! Now get on with your cooking and housework so that it's all finished before the fun starts! ☺

Beautiful crisp winter day today again, chilly but with light winds. This is one of my favourite winter weather types, enjoying being out in it.

Here is the METO predicted PPN position for 9pm. I will update this later say 3-4pm and again say 7-8pm to see if any change in 9pm prediction if people would like me to. As others have alluded to, west of our region on this thread in good position for at least a bit of snow.

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
