Hard to blame the Government for extreme weather events it's called nature

Can do a lot more to prevent the flooding though. We've been waiting for ages for flood defences in Leeds, and were warned flooding of this scale would happen sooner or later.

Defenses which just move the problem elsewhere.  Any new houses should be built down the lines of stilt houses. Cost more but that should be offset by saved insurance long term.

Unbelievable scenes throughout West Yorkshire. Despite being down South for the holiday's, it's crazy to see parts of Leeds City centre under water.

Good friend of mine is stranded at her Grandma's near to Keighley.

Build defences wherever the problems are. Either don't build new houses on flood plains or build them so ground floors aren't flooded - on stilts or whatever else.

Driving into Leeds center the route was completely underwater we had to abandon our travel. The route down Kirkstall Road past view Cinema is a good foot under water, one of the main roads into the city...

Unbelievable, it's flooded all the way under the arches and past the garage, one of the main routes into the City. Crazy seeing it so bad, just a ten minute walk from my place in Leeds! Drive down the Kirkstall Road a few times a week normally!

Its a good job most of the city is on a hill otherwise we would be in serious trouble.

Pictures on Twitter of ASDA head office by the train station now under water.

BBC news on BBC one on earlier highlighted Leeds city center as having a danger to life with 5 severe flood warnings.

Hi Amanda. At the moment it looks like the North and West will see the strongest winds.

Wellington Street below. This is a good few hundred metres from the river itself. It's not unusual for the Aire to break its banks occasionally but the extent is something I've never witnessed before.

Like Cheese Rice said, it's good Leeds city centre is hilly, otherwise loads more areas could be under water.

I've friends travelling down from Leeds tomorrow. Can anyone tell me if the station is currently accessible? They're travelling from Harrogate. Thanks

Network Rail advise not to travel in W Yorkshire tomorrow unless absolutely necessary. I know some of the lines in Leeds are flooded.

Now 31 Severe Flood warnings because

They have added near enough all areas in Leeds as a Severe Flood Warning

York - They have put all areas on the East side of York under a Severe Flood Warning, 6 Severe Warnings there. This encompasses a lot of houses, given the main risk there wont be till tomorrow expect the EA to throw everything they can at it to limit the damage.

Lol, think this needs to be updated again, very quickly. It's been changed to rain not kept as wind!
