Yep, Sunday night and Monday morning looking particularly nasty for the whole of the South West, and especially in our neck of the woods near to the South Devon coast.

The weather today is bad enough, the rain and wind so far has been just about the worst of the winter. And there is worse to come by the looks of it on Sun/Mon!

Update from the met office this morning, new warning for Monday talks of 70 or 80mph gusts around the SW and South coast with the warning extended East from yesterday.

Perhaps a name will follow later or tomorrow? Monday rush hours could  be quite nasty in parts with talk of power outages and structural damagr in the M.O warning.

bbc   weather  now  sayng  80  +  for  the south and east on  monday

Gusts of 119 km/h showing around the Brest Peninsula area...and the met. station on Mont Aigoual is measuring 128 km/h

I had to abandon my garden trimming as everything was blowing out of the wheelbarrow. A cycle ride is not an option unless I want to get blown into a local watercourse, so I'm going out for a walk around the lake. It feels really bizarre, because it's 16c out there - more like what we get on the Mediterranean coast than Limousin!

Stay safe, I think this could get a bit rough for the south of the UK...

Pretty windy day across the SW with strong winds now affecting more S/SE areas with gusts around 40-50mph inland, very wet in many places too. Looking at the latest wind/gusts on XC, Mace Head W Ireland recording severe gale 9 mean speed with gusts into the mid 60's which is nearly double the predictions based on the last GFS 6z run - http://www.xcweather.co.uk/

The ARPEGE is much nearer the mark.

6Z ARPEGE kept the strongest winds further south, will have to see what the 12z run makes of it.

Even the latest GFS has failed to pick up on the 60-70mph gusts currently affecting western Ireland this afternoon.

Scary gusts here in middle France. The wind is from the south and it's battering the porch. I've got the emergency lights accessible in case we lose the electricity and I've cooked and eaten early. Stay safe folks - it doesn't have to be named to be dangerous...

Downgrade for us tomorrow a breezy day today but not beating 50 mph so nothing of note. Tomorrow a case of blink and you mi9ssed it in south yorkshire and north midlands. Different story for the south west and channel coasts.  Monday nasty for the north midlands southwards. South yorkshire looks out of the picture at the moment but a slight shift north would bring us into the frame.

To be honest next week looks fairly uninteresting weather wise for us fairly quiet too far south for any cold weather so odd wet days and odd glimpse of sun.

MetO FAX suggest the strongest of the winds will be hitting the Southwest coasts and along the channel. I don't know if their forecast is based on that exactly, but their forecast map represents it.

Very windy across the far north of Ireland, severe westerly gales with a gust of 75mph @ Malin Head - http://www.xcweather.co.uk/

Could be some very strong winds for a time funnelling through the central belt in a few hours with gusts over 60mph.

Weather Warnings issued for Saturday / Sunday for North West England and Wales:

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=warnings&map=Warnings&zoom=5&lon=-3.50&lat=55.50&fcTime=1455926400&regionName=nw

Totals keep varying run to run, but does look to be 50mm+ widely with possibility for 100+mm widely on the hills. It does have the possibility to be a significant event, the met though seem to think it will be at the lower end of the spectrum thankfully but its one to keep an eye on as could be 'upgraded' before Saturday.

surprised there hasnt been any mentions about weather warnings here, looks like the South West and South Wales is in for a bit of a windy spell.

Widespread gales, and severe gales in more exposed areas, are expected to develop during the early hours of Wednesday bringing gusts of 50-60 mph to some inland areas and gusts to 70 mph to some coastal areas and higher ground. The winds will slowly ease during the afternoon. Combined with heavy rain these high winds are likely to produce some difficult driving conditions. Please be aware of the risk of disruption to transport and possible disruption to power supplies, as well as high waves overtopping some coastal routes.

currently affected areas noted as: Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Plymouth, Somerset, Torbay, Isles of Scilly, Bridgend, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Swansea and Vale of Glamorgan

Yes winds may hit the 60mph in the South West and western coastal areas of Wales for a time tomorrow. Elsewhere the rainfall will be the issue.

Certainly lots of rain overnight and standing water on roads over much of the central and east Midlands.

Is there a secondary low spinning off centred on Lincoln at present??
