Not often you get winds gusting around 35 m/s (78mph) through Manchester!

Yep, wintry showers into N England now while heavy snow showers continue to affect Scotland.

Been very quiet round here.

Considering the charts were showing 60 - 80 mph gusts here , its barely been breezy.  Weird.

Wind moderating here but taking it's time, still gusting around 50mph.

Which charts were showing those wind speeds that far south?

Not as windy as I was expecting here either tbf. That is not to take away from events up north though i.e Manchester. But for us in the south, quite a few saying not as bad as expected.

Storm Clodagh bringing some very lively gusts in and aroind London between 3pm and 6pm.Certainly 50mph + in built up areas

Considering it was quite 'late' being named it has proved to be the strongest of the named storms this year for here and some others.

Agreed.

I'd say gusts barely reaching 40mph for a short period of time here and when the worst was expected it felt like a normal day with a slight wind.

Some Mets suggesting a 'sting jet' had formed on the rear of Clodagh as it crossed the North Sea, explaining high low-level wind gusts. Gusts of 89mph has been recorded along the low-lying west coast of Denmark, 83mph over northern Germany.

why do they pep up over the North Sea ??

I guess they often carry on deepening as they cross the North Sea, had gone from 980mb at 12z over SE Scotland to 970mb at 18z over Denmark. Sting jets often develop in the rearward back bent occlusion of a depeening low. The low hadn't developed the backbent occlusion over UK. Though also, the relatively warm SSTs beneath the cold conveyor wrapping in behind the low perhaps giving sufficient instability to aid downward momentum of the very strong winds aloft (200mph+ at 300hpa).

My friend was at Lancaster midday when alll trains north were cancelled behind these tree falls, took her 10 hours to get home. She says there were no emergency plans in place (as it was a weekend) but wonder if the lack of orange warning also contributed to the lack of preparation. No trains north to glasgow or Edinburgh, and the 2 train staff at the station tried their best but had nothing to offer on a Sunday
