Interesting charts into the New Year with snow on the cards from either the East if its GFS or from the North West on the ECM.

Here's hoping 2016 can deliver something more widespread snow wise than 2015.

Indeed, it may not happen, but it looks like the Elves were playing with the NWP while Santa was away!

Happy Christmas to you all!

Happy christmas to everyone. What a lovely xmas eve night it is ,clear with a full moon and a more seasonal feel. Coldest night so far this month (which i know isnt saying much) ,currently 1.3c.

As for the gfs it may be a fallacy but we dare to dream!

Well the big day is here, Merry Christmas everyone let's raise our glass to those with us and those who have left us. A beautiful night with a full moon, a decent frost as well around 2am. Interesting week of weather coming up, the 30th especially from a stormy point of view. Enjoy the turkey and the presents have a good one!!!

Happy Christmas everyone. Not the most festive weather today here, but at least we've got running water, unlike 2010 and 2009! Enjoy!

Happy Christmas everyone, technically we've a white Christmas here as it is snowing (on the sleety side) although there appears to be a good covering 100 metres or so higher than my location.

Good craic on model threads, hopefully it verifies!

Merry Christmas to all you folks. Its not been snowy but it has been nice to kick back a bit.

Ive got 1.5 gallons of home made spiced mead thats ready to bottle so probably gonna give that a burl later.

New Years storm you say. I saw a few charts that looked truly awful and NI weather has got some warnings up.

Still thoughts with our north england brethren with those floods.

Going to have to look at the the model output threads and see if there is some serious ramping going on or is this likely to pull off.

Turkey sandwhich anyone??

Merry Christmas to you as well Baltic :-),  a lot of interest piqued in the model thread,  as always I am somewhat wary of what this means for us as the Southeast England bias will be in full mode. Tuesday and Wednesday look interesting from a wind and rain point of view...

Looks interesting all right Pom ref ties and weds. Could get a few problems with it. Ref model thread they are once again chasing the holy grail easterly! Time will tell but going by meto update they are having none of it. If it comes of then for us as generally the case it could be really good for the east of the province and not so further west.

We deserve it on the east coast... Haven't had snow since 2010!

Surprise surprise! The model thread has gone into meltdown. Beast from the east has been blown to pieces by this constant train of Atlantic depressions. When will they ever learn that this very rarely happens. ! More of the same now for us for the extended period now and snow looks a long long long way away. But really it's only the weather.

Funny thing is, the broad pattern is still there, good outputs showing height rises in northerly areas! Interesting model watching anyway!

More flooding around here, and more to come during the week.

The most rain recorded in December at a Met Eireann synoptic station is 319.5mm (records here). Cork Airport is up to 310.9mm to the 27th, and has probably got another 15mm or so today, so the December record is likely to be smashed, possibly in several locations.
The record for the most rain in any month is 360.3mm. Going by the forecast for the next few days, even that record is under threat. Amazing month, in some ways!
