Clearly the A93 can not be reinstated on it's original alignment, the river will continue to try and widen the meander. It took 2 years and the full compulsory purchase procedure to get construction started on the A82 at Glen Cloy after half the road collapsed into the river gorge - this needs realigned way back into the fields and started asap, with whatever usual legal rights of challenge the landowners have removed - hopefully they'll be a lot more cooperative than at Glen Cloy! Can a temporary dirt road be build without any normal procedures?

It also adds a different dimension to the case for re-trunking the A93 so this important route for the North East gets the investment it needs.

Bliadhna mhath your a h-uile duine! / Happy new year everyone!

Got the accordion out, the whisky in and the family round so well ready for our cliche Highland new year. Goes without saying that it's great to have this place to share my strange weather interests with others in Scotland and hope that you all have a lovely evening and not too bad a hangover when you (eventually!) emerge tomorrow!

Lovely starry night sky to start the New Year. And seasonably cold too which makes a change from last month. Hopefully January 2016 heralds more in the way of cold and snow - certainly a fair bit of promise in the models but I'm skeptical we'll see something of note within the next 2-4 weeks or so.

Freezing rain in central Inverness... if you are going anywhere near here tonight or in the morning take extra care, it's difficult to stand up on my street (and I'm talking about the road conditions not the New Year celebrations)! :drunk-emoji:

A very good morning to all and a Happy New Year too! Nae snaw here, we had some hailstones last night and  a lovely Aurora. A week bit blustery but sky clearing. I feel a long walk coming on followed by  a continued and sustained attack on the bottle of Aberlour brought up by my sister. No first foot yet, later on today perhaps and then the steak pie is for it! Have a great day and an even better year, and here's hoping for some more cracking weather chat on this thread!:drunk-emoji:

The GFS is knocking out even more violent storms. Thankfully this is a week away, so we're likely to see something else come the day ...

Central, Tayside & Fife & Grampian have an amber rain warning from 12:00 tomorrow (Saturday) until 15:00 on Monday

Yes, not good news for this neck of the woods in coming days with an amber warning in force for three consecutive days (tomorrow until Monday)

"A frontal zone arriving from the southwest late on Friday will become slow-moving across the area on Saturday and persist into Sunday, before being joined by another frontal zone from the southwest on Sunday night. Over the period to Monday some parts are likely to see over 200 mm of rain. The precipitation is expected to fall as snow initially above around 600 to 700 m. The snow level will rise on Sunday before returning to similar levels later Monday as the rain starts to ease. Given the saturated nature of the ground there is a greater risk of surface water and river flooding that might normally be expected."

Morning all (just)... Can't remember going to bed which is always a bad sign as it means there are likely to be other matters not remembered...

Anyhoo, we have a dusting of snow so I perceive a jolly festive mongoose!

Overnight low of -3.2 here and still below freezing with a hard frost....was hoping to squeeze wintry showers this weekend but given the warnings clearly the models have firmed up on colder but retaining copious amounts of rain...could do with some of the potential that keeps showing up to be realised...hopefully still a wintry chance for Jan 5/6 ish..... Off to look at the models and see our maybe just nip into the MT :sorry:
