Solihull snow shield is down!!!!

Its SNOWING!!!!!

very soggy flakes but at least it's snow ❄️❄️❄️

Indeed, we had quite a nice little covering at one stage this morning - it all seems to have turned to a slushy mess now however.

Still, some snow is better than no snow! :)

Absolutely no snow whatsoever here, not even sleet falling - just rain.

According to model thread, big downgrades on this cold spell? Only lasting a few days now?

The models are flip-flopping all over the place at the moment, so I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. I'd take everything post 96hrs with a big pinch of salt.

Plus, any sort of cold spell is welcome after that vile, awful December. :)

Really good to hear of people getting a bit of snow at last! All rain here in Bewdley, as expected. I have at least seen a little lying snow... but it was on the Clent Hills, which I can see from my bedroom window!

Had a slight covering this morning. There was some on cars shed roofs and grass (may have been a better covering earlier than that but wasn't awake). Mostly melted now though.

luckily models/bbc do underestimate Cheshire Gap activity, but I am only thinking smattering at best, similar to late last Jan, and 20th Nov

January 14th last year 4 inches.

Expecting some snow showers tonight to settle.

Other this has been like November similar amount of patchy snow dustings today.

Met Office Yellow warning for parts of the West Midlands:

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=warnings&map=Warnings&zoom=5&lon=-3.50&lat=55.50&fcTime=1452729600&regionName=wm

"Showers will become frequent on Thursday evening and heavy at times, increasingly turning to snow on high ground and inland, with a longer spell of sleet and snow moving south-eastwards across Wales and into parts of the West Midlands and West country overnight. Snow accumulations of 5-10 cm are likely across Wales above 200 metres, with 1-4 cm possible at low levels well inland from the coast. Ice is also likely to form on untreated surfaces.

Across England, smaller amounts of snow are expected, but 1-3 cm is possible above 200 metres, with some small slushy accumulations to low levels very locally. With some of the showers falling as sleet or rain, ice is more likely to prove a hazard here where surfaces are untreated."

Warning out for the very western reaches tonight.

NMM looks like things stay over Wales in more of a Northerly air stream at the moment though. West is best tonight, I suspect places like Shropshire/Shrewsbury/Welsh Borders down into Worcester and then into the SW could find their way to a couple of CM's overnight tonight.  Suspect we are too far east and will miss out.

Perhaps, but it would only take a very slight eastwards shift to bring the rest of us back into contention as well 8)

Currently 3.3°C here, with a dp of 0.7°C

I'm just about on the eastern boundary of the yellow warning area... so we'll see! Personally I fear it'll all stay further west, but at least the air's properly cold now. Max today 4.2 °C, easily the lowest so far. Quite nice outside, with lots of sunshine and that clear feel you get from polar air -- though the wind is pretty darn cold! :cold:
