I see from that webcam shot that the poor old cows are still wondering around in the mountain pastures. Probably wondering why they've not been tucked up in their cattle sheds down in the valley for the winter! But no doubt the farmer has checked the forecasts and spotted that a lot of the snow cover at mid-mountain will be temporary, with a milder few days coming up. So no panic in taking the herd down the mountain just yet!

Aye, the cows were slap bang in the middle of the webcam shot yesterday at one point during the snowfall. It'd be nice if what's lying now would freeze into a base for the coming season but as you say, too early, and it'll be brown again in a few days. Can't seem to find exactly what height Serre Ratier sits at but looks around 1/3 of the way up the hill on the piste map, so maybe around 1600m? Maybe the higher areas will fair better and hold some of the current snow through into the season.

Don't know whether you had spotted it, but your webcam grab has the words 'Pic de la Cucumelle' written on it. So assuming it is, the lift station in the shot is at the bottom of the chairlift located at 2,100m. The chair goes to the top of the 'Pic de la Cucumelle' red piste at 2,698m.

It's not there, I think the 'Pic de la Cucumelle' is a label marking the top of the mountain when it's clear enough to see it. There's a few others appear as the webcam picture rotates through 360 degrees.

Sorry, I should have included a link to the webcam itself...

The webcam seems to be located at the are where the two lifts coming up from Chantemerle finish and the Combes and Oree Du Bois lifts start. You can just about make out some of the signs on these lifts on the webcam.

Thanks @Ravelin. What a wonderful webcam! And it looks gorgeous up there today. I let the camera pan around and zoomed in on the Chalet Hotel Serre Ratier. Google-ing the hotel gave the answer - it's at 1,900m. :)

You know, I tried to find a list of the lifts in the hope that would give me their altitudes but failed. I never thought of looking at the buildings.

With the likelihood of widespread snow across the Alps at the beginning of next week onwards, maybe we should be starting a new thread for 2016/17?

Hopefully we can keep a cooler outlook through November into December and at least some of the snow falling in Nov will last through to the start of the ski season. It'd be nice to have a good start to the season this year, not least so that I'm not stressing about our trip starting 27th Dec.
