Great to have you on board Paul, and yes you will see some proper weather, I know from Ukww you love structure and the last few Junes have had structure and Tornadoes galore so you have picked well.

Have put a little montage up on Facebook of the early June tours which you can see below.

A VERY bad head if you do 2 days in a row on that stuff!

Thanks Paul, and yes, structure is what I like to see - something rare in the UK.  My perfect storm (visually at least) would probably be an LP supercell twisting itself into a thin updraught after putting out some large hail and maybe a tornado.

For anyone on T4 this year if staying over night at Days Inn, Tower Rd, Denver on the 9th then there is a nice bar/grill just on the other side of Tower Road called Vinnys. Went there for beer/food last year and very reasonable. Oh and they sell Bluemoon too !! So anyone looking to eat / drink on the 9th, I'll meet you there!

also there's a Village Inn next door which do a nice breakfast for the morning of the 10th if you don't want a Days Inn free "breakfast"!

Really wish I was going along this year guys... already been getting some storm chase dreams as if i was going ! ha

Already saving my money though for next year... gonna have to choose between a storm chase or a trip over to see the August 21st Total Solar eclipse ! Unless I come across a large sum of money and just go in June and come back home late August lol.

Hope its a great year for all the tours.

Already have both set in our sights to do. If you take the eclipse you could also do a lightning session in Arizona, what a great way to enjoy, eclipse plus lightning, mmm mm...

It is possible to get from the eclipse path with a couple of days driving into Arizona for the lightning & haboob season, thus making it a great visit.

10 days of chasing or a few minutes in the dark!

I know now which one I'd go for!

;)

EDIT

just read Dorestbred's post and the lightning and haboob sounds interesting.

Hi Guys,
Hopefully this is the best place to ask!

I was just wondering what everyone normally does regarding backingup/storage of photos/videos?  Do you just take lots of memory cards, or do some of you take laptops and HDDs etc?

I don't have a laptop to take, so just considering my options.

Not long now!

Memory cards and quite a few of them if you don't/can't take a laptop. Most of the hotels have PCs for guests to use so you could copy them from a memory card to an external hard disk or straight to cloud storage.

I am a belt and braces guy so although I take a few 32GB cards, I also take an external disk. The last thing I'd want is to not have a backup of some kind

Ok well i have have started to go through my check list for the tours.  I would advise all tour participants to do the same. Do not miss packing some thing important.  i.e.

Travel Insurance

ESTA online visia

Train ticket to the airport

tell your bank that you are going away and will be using your bank cards in the US , otherwise your bank may think its being used by a A.Another. They will block it.

I fly out on May 4th Manchester to Heathrow and then Heathow to DFW. I am working on tours 1 & 2.

Get working on your check list right away.

Tom

Another vital is, of course, a bottle opener.
